NZR Tony Pond

Any rally fans out there may not know that Tony Pond passed away recently. Cancer was the cause. People may remember him from his days in the Metro 6R4.

Leigh.

Yes, he drove the TR8 and yes also the Metro 6R4 - a truly mind-blowing thing. I saw a road-legal one (de-tuned to 450bhp FFS) in a local garage yonks ago for £20k.

The year he did the 100mph TT lap in a Rover (jeez...) I was in the Quarterbridge Hotel watching him screw the nuts off this large Rover bourgemobile. (If you've been to the IoM, you'll know exactly how scary this was!)

RIP Tony - keep it shiny side up

Yep,

Saw the video years ago, and explained how the conditions could change from Mild to wet during the coure of on elap, making tyre choice extremely difficult.

Unbelieveable consdiering the barge he was driving.

Sorry guys couldn't resist...shame though, I think anyone who has actually driven a competition 6R-4 has to have sliced their life expectancy down by about 10 years! Would piss a 300 Twin Tub and many other cars! wink.gif
