OK my Z went on the rollers again yesterday first to see how much power it was making now with the BoostJets installed and JWT Chip and also to do a before and after dyno run using my standard Millers Oil and then with this new much Hyped Royal Purple Stuff...

It says on the can that it will actually increase BHP, improve fuel economy, reduce emmision by up to 50% and give a much better wear rate than the leading oil... To good to be true??? Thought i'd give it a go as my garage we're offering me free dyno runs and the oil at cost price to see if it would really work!!!

Ok so my first 3 runs with my normal oil gave my Z an overall output of 377.8 BHP / & 349.6 ibft of torque running at 1 Bar boost & Optimax..

Then the oil change...

The diff oil/ gearbox and engine oil we're all drained and replaced with the Royal Purple stuff.. From the stench of the diff and gearbox oil it smelt like it hadn't been change in the lifetime of my car, about 14Years!!! :hurl:

The new stuff is a really dark purple colour (Suppose it would be with a name like that!)

Than after the engine was warmed up it was back on the dyno...

To my and my mechanics amazement the Z suddenly shot up to an overall power rating of 383.7BHP and 391.2ibft torque!!! That an increase of 6BHP and 42ibft of torque!!! We did another 2 runs just to make sure they we're conclusive and the following 2 runs gave and extra 0.1BHP so 383.8BHP overall!!! Was dissapointed I didn't get over the magic 400BHP but thats probably down to the old JWT chip so if anyone knows of a better more up to date ECU I Could replace my JWT with then let me know!!

I've also got the runs on my mobile but need a decent 3GP to avi converter if anyone wants to see them...

Anyway here are the pics...

would be a better test against two new oil fills, say one with rp oil and one with a decent synth

Yeah, would be a fair-er test I suppose but the millers oil wasn't that old really... I suppose if the diff and gearbox and engine all had to different types of new oil done on the same day then that would be more accurate... At least it made an improvement to me and shows that having old diff and gear oil in your car can nacker performance!

I've had a bit more background info on Royal Purple since Jon started this post. It is pretty special stuff, loads of amazing results including from oem's and many race teams.

Are you still running the JWT chip?

Are you still running the JWT chip?

No mate, a few months after changing the oil I switched to using one of Andy P's chips recommended by MAC1 and it totally transformed my Z yet again making it pull even stronger than the JWT chip... Done a few other little engine mods over the summer as well! :D Looking forward to having a re-dyno with some fresh oil in Feburary....

am i correct in saying that changing the oil in a car will give it more bhp anyway if the oil has been in there a lil while

Not really. The oil should be changed ~every 6k miles. New oil actually deteriorates the oil seals so frequent changes are not a good idea!

Nice one. I contacted Andy a while back about getting one of these but never followed it up. I might do now lol!

True test would have been to replace the old oil (Millers?) with 'new' of the same manufacturer and then drain that and try the purple stuff...Sounds to me like any fresh oil and gearbox oil will give a slight increase, so the purple stuff was probably less of a gain overall...Just my opinion.
