EGR

This is a valve on the engine that goes from the exhaust manifold to the intake manifold, controlled by the ECU. When the ECU senses that there is too much oxygen in the exhaust, it diverts some exhaust gas into the cylinder, reducing the oxygen in the cylinder, causing more total ignition of the available oxygen and gas, and reduced emissions.

I have also read about alot of people bypassing it but i wouldnt like to advise.

I rode somewhere that nissan remove the EGR on car after 1996 or so.

So it's better without ^^

Its purly an emissions thing to get the engine through emission testing, but its not that effective which is why nissan took it off later models. Im led to believe its pretty difficult to by pass in-situ so no point really

Bypassed mine today, mainly because I couldn't face connecting it back up when the plenum was going back on.

for $40 plus shipping, go to your local plunmbing shop, and get a end cap compression fitting job (guess whos not a plumber!) and use that to plug up the manifold. Seal a 2p piece under each hole in the plenum where the pipework used to be! ;)

costs £2.50 max plus removing the plenum.
