You have to look further than what the car looks like, you have to look at what it was, what it accomplished. Like the lancia delta.. didnt look that great, if you stood next to it you could hear it rusting, probably wasnt that reliable but then again it doesnt have the same rep as the cossie purely because its not so common.

The cosworth, in the escort, was a superb rally weapon, on the track in the rs500 it was that good it got outlawed from the touring cars, it wiped the floor with them.

Then you get the road version, name some other cars that had the same bold look (rememeber we are talking early 90's ( in the escorts case)here where greed was still good and people wanted to show off. people could buy a car that with a bit of tweaking would give mr porsche and mr BMW a good run for their money in the performance stakes for a fraction of the cost. It brought performance to the masses and set a benchmark for others to follow.

You only have to look at how well it has stood the test of time as you still see them down at the 1/4 mile strip doing some very respectable times.

It has a motorsport pedigee the zed can only dream of.

 

I'd just like to say however, toyota's escort cossie (the gt4) is much better . :tongue: :tongue: :tongue: :dance: :D

Cossies are slightly over rated, and as standard their not all that good. But with the right mods their bloody rapid cars! And i would deffinatly have 1, their rare, their 4X4 and they gotta turbo, what else do you want?
