i get a randomly occuring blue smoke that appears from under the car.

I first i thought i had blown the engine and had a hole in the exhaust but on closer inspection i saw the odd drop of oil leaking onto the cat/exhaust causing the smoke.

I guess this is from the gearbox (auto)

Are there any seals above roughly where the cats are that could discintergrate and leak?

cant get under the car as its too low and till i can arrange a pit or build some ramps im clueless lol

hanks in advance guys

You've got the big gasket that fits the auto box oil pan and is held in place with 18 bolts, so that's a possibility. Very easy to change once you have the car high enough to get under, done mine a few weeks back when I did an oil change.

I'm sure there are many other points at which a leak could occur, unfortunately the only to know for sure is to get under it for a look ..... which is not so easy :(

cheers mate will try and take a look this week

its just strange it happens and then goes again..

if you've got blocked PCV valves they can blow the main seal between the engine and the box - that would give you the smoke occasionally. Also check that it's not the prop seal where it enters the gearbox. That smells strong as it's different oil.

Good luck

had it happen big time today while out on a thrash-the worst its ever happened where i could actually see the smoke coming from behind the car while at 70mph!!!!

Checked the oil that i found under the car and it appears to be autobox oil!im pretty sure that it is anyway!

If anybody has got a pit or decent ramps around Norwich i can get a very low car onto it would be greatly aprreciated to solve this mystery

In most cases this is caused by a leaking RMS (rear main crank seal).

look for signs/drips of oil on the lowest point of the bellhousing, where the gearbox meets the engine. (there's a small hole there to allow leaking oil out)

for replacement of RMS you'll need to drop the gearbox.

The mains seal is fairly new on (5k ago)

Im thinking if i replace the pcv valves and hoses i may be able to stop the leak resulting in not having to change the mains seal again ( if it is the RMS not the gearbox)

Is it possible the RMS may be ok after i change the pcv valves.?

For the oil seal to go so soon I would guess it was either not put in correctly or damaged before or while being done, changing the PCVs will maybe lower the pressure on them and cure an oil leak although with one as bad as yours sounds I doubt it will help to be honest, depends on if they need doing really, if the PCVs are doing their job at the moment then replacing them will have no effect.

Might as well change the PCVs anyway as everybody seems to and see what happens.

Ive got an offer to use somebody's lift to see what/where the leak is but ive got to go to Suffolk to do it-to far in its current condition.

Sounds like its quite bad if you cant drive it such a short distance mate, if you manage to make it there and I am allowed I could pop down to look at it with you.

It only does it when i thrash or go long distance.

im going to do the pcv valves first as i dont need the car at the moment as i can bike or run to work and see what happens-if it continues then its a stick it in a garage to do work job unfortunately as i havent got the quipment to drop a gearbox.
