if there has not been an after market cooler put on, then they have a cooler built onto the rad. as you look at the engine from the front to the right on the rad you'll see a small pipe attached to the back of the rad at the top. that is where the cooler is.hth

I had the same question, as standard they do have a gearbox oil cooler of sorts, but it is built-in to the main water radiator, the problem with this, is that if the gearbox runs hot, it puts additional heat load into the cooling water, so further heats the water and doesnt cool the gearbox oil very well.

The good news is that it’s very easy to fit an aftermarket oil cooler for the gearbox.

first off the box will run hot as all it really is , is a large hydraulic pump which will get hot.

JDM have a poxy one in the rad which aint worth its weight.

Fit a aftermarket one from somewhere like the z centre as it comes with all the fittings.

Sorry to steal your thread Rodders, I read a members step by step write up on fitting an aftermarket autobox cooler last week but am now unable to find it again. Can anyone give me a link to it please?

thx

I was only asking cause when you change gearbox oil its on about shorting something out to make the pump run so you make sure the rad is filled and then finally top up the level.

Just wondered if this was the same for gearbox and diff????

Sorry, I ment for the gearbox.

Also is there one on the diff?

yeah that what i was on about too mate. the engine oil cooler is a small rad infront of the air con rad. the tank fastened to the water rad is for the auto box

hth

rodders you have a manual, all the above are under the impression you mean auto,uk 300s have a small cooler for the manual, but the j-spec doesnt

so to answer your question you dont need a cooler for the box as it doesnt have one

same oil can be used for the gearbox&diff 75w90 is suitable,if you have any crunchy syncros or crunches

you may opt for redline mt-90 available from demon tweeks, approx 4 bottles of it,only downside to mt-90 is in short term it can help improve the feel of the gearbox, due to its consitancy it may promote premature wear, but its all hear say
