Hi I have a continueing problem with water loss and cannot find the leak. I can see water all over the left hand side of the car at the front after driving it, but when I leave it just ticking over at the garage then their is no sign of the leak. Does anyone have any suggestions as at the moment I appear to be stuck. The next plan is to replace the bottom hose and radiator but this may be a little extreme. Could somebody also confirm the position of the water pump and describe the look / position of the coolant pressure release valve. I don't think its the release valve, but does anyone know how to check it. Besides the leak the fans and thermostat appear to be working perfectly with engine temperature staying normal even when stationery.

Any help will be appreciated, as I am getting depressed with not be able to solve this.

This is a Pic of the Water Pump with all the Timing Gear cover removed, It is the cleanish thing in the roughly the middle of the pic next to the Auto Tensioner for the timing belt. Not and easy thing to remove.

Thanks Jez & Nico from the photo I think I can say it probably isn't the water pump as the I can only see water on the side of the car with the expansion bottle, if it was the pump I would expect to see sater equally around the middle of the car and around the timing belt covers.

I have a similar problem. My car overheats. The water pump, rad, therm, rad cap all replaced. Car been into Simpsons(New Malden 4 times and they can't sort it. They now say its the Head Gasket even though it passes the pressure test. I can tarvel a few miles and it boils up or two weeks and no probs. Today I stopped for petrol and water was coming out from the left hand side like yours. Any ideas...

have you guys checked out the expansion tank itself ?

maybe it has a small split in, which expands once the system pressurises.

Or any of the pipes may have tiny splits which only leak once the pressure builds up.

Just a thought.
