I have some new steering bush's. The one on the passenger side is a doddle to get of and replace. But how the rubber duck do you wiggle the steering rack so the drivers side steering bush can be removed and replaced. I also have disconnected the steering rack rods from the wheel mount\brake disc area. I have given the rack some serious welly with a crowbar but the rack wont budget enough.

Yep. Left bush on that pic a doddle, right one i am no where near close to removing never mind getting the replacement on.

However the original bush's 'appear' in good order, not cracked or deformed at all. I shall certinly replace the left one. But after looking at some really uneven wear on the front tyres i am fairly sure my wobbly ride issue is due to the tracking, alignment being wrong after my crash into a barrier last october duh!

did mine a couple of months ago. Push it through with a screwdriver while pulling on the other side with pliers, it will move once it frees itself. When I put the new one one, I put a little grease to help it slide round :)

Thank you but now i have another - big problem. I disconnected the steering rack arm from the wheel suspension strut thing and i cant screw the thing back on! The bolt did have this clip, wire thing wound around the gaps in the bolt. I removed that - too hastily. And now i want to put that nut back on the bolt part, the nut just goes on one turn then spins around with the bolt thread! the bolt does have a hole in it that the wire circlip thingy went through.

Picture of the nut:-

At the moment i cant secure the steering rack end to the suspension strut :(

It's on a taper mate, try applying pressure the the b/joint whilst tightening, an air gun would really help you here! ;)

Thanks, i used the zed car jack on top of a brick to hold the steering ball joint thingy firmly in the suspension arm. The nut screwed on fine :)

I only replaced the passenger side steering bush, the drivers side one was to hard to do. The bracket on the passenger side bush i could not get the one end touching the bit it should screw onto - there is about 4mm gap with the bolt thread visible. I

-really- tightened the bolt with a 2ft socket set bar. To my best estimate of 80lbs torque, as if i was at the gym. I think if i tightened it a lot more trying to get past the gap i would damage the steering rack.
