Howdy guys.

I was doin general maintenance checks round the car as ya do today, when sat in drivers seat I thought I would check all the buttons for the electric seat.

In a nutshell I pressed the seat right far forward, then when I pressed the button to push the seat back it didnt work lol so I was actually stuck against the steering wheel, kinda scary, brute force managed to get me out :(

So anyway I check the elec buttons and the seat only goes forward, not back, great I thought.. so I took switch to bit, and boinggg springs and ball bearings all over place :(

I managed to locate em and check the switch, squirt of WD40 and the seat moved forward and back, wicked, seat went up and down, ohh cool it never did this before, seat went back... aaaand.. stayed back :(

I spent well over 2 hrs today playin with the switch, trying all sorts of combinations but the seat wont sit upright :(

Any ideas guys what my options are to get me seat to come back cos I cant even drive it like that al layed flat out :(

Cheers in advance.

put cusions behind you lol

You could trace the wires and put a feed to the motor that makes the seat come up !

lol...

I aint too good with electrics, if I put power to the motor, whats to then direct power to the switch to make it move ? oh am confused already ...

I might just hit it with a hammer and see what happens lol.

(sigh) :( ....

Some great advice guys.. really helped me that :smw:

The switches mate cant be unplugged like that, there soldered into the back of these white connecters, unless there is a junction box further down the line ?

be easier and cheaper for you to buy a new seat, tweed seats go for no money at all mate, cheaper than the switch will cost as silly as it may sound.

stick a post in wanted

The switches certainly can be changed, but you need the full switch and loom set.

After removing the seat you simply trace all of the cables to the relevant plugs and unclip them, then thread the cables back to the switch undo the switch and swap over.

To get you out of trouble for now though is very easy.

The seat has a single power supply plug, disconnect this under the front part of the seat, with a spare battery or leads run from the car battery reconnect to the seat but reverse the polarity, then of course up becomes down and back becomes forward.

You can set your seat for now and then disconnect it again, that way you can use the car until you have a new set of switches.

Be very carefull with the leads and do not short them out of course even though it is a tempory thing an inline fuse at the battery end will keep it safe whilst you set the seat.

And then there was light :D

MANY THANKS Daveman... just the kinda reply I needed mate :)

OK hows about this.. you know you said theres a power lead under the seat that powers the seat ? what if, once disconneted I just take some wire from where I under seat wires to car end, and take wire and put it from the positive side of the car wire to the negative side of the seat and negative to positive, do you think this would also be possible ?

Cheers mate, finally think am gettin somewhere :)

I love it when a plan comes together LOL

Here we go DaveMan.

You were right mate :D

Rigged up some wire and hey presto ! you were right, by reversing the current forward became backward, so the motors ok, must be the switch thats faulty ?

Anyway I dont have to lay on me back now while drivin :D

Thanks again mate.

Matt

Well done chap, as said previously you just need the switches and loom, if you get stuck I think a breaker by me still has a zed with a seat in it, I can get the part and post it to you.

Daveman

Thanks Daveman, appreciate that mate will let you know :)

Cheers :)
