What to do? Help appreciated

Would appreciate any of the garage traders' input if possible :)

I had a rebuilt gearbox fitted two weeks ago by a very reputable 200SX specialists which they supplied.

I bought a second hand propshaft which looked in better nick than mine and the garage agree to swap it for mine when swapping the gearboxes.

It turned out that the propshaft I'd bought didn't fit anyway as it was for an auto and the input diameter is wrong, so they put mine back on straight after removing it. I picked up the car, was a bit disappointed about not having the prop replaced but drove home.

You still with me?

This morning in Daventry I'm pulling away from Ben's nursery carpark and suddenly the rear end starts clattering and vibrating. I limp the car the mile home, very vibraty and something in the transmission banging and clattering around.

Took the mrs' car to work and have just had a chance to inspect the car and find this:

attachment.php?attachmentid=22315

One bolt gone and the remaining bolt half way out, the prop CB swinging on the remaining bolt. :( WTF would have happened if the prop would have come loose at speed?? The bolt(s) clearly cant have been tight enough  At least a scrapped new gearbox...

I rang the garage but they'd closed for the day, any ideas what to say/do when I call them tomorrow? They are a well respected professional outfit.

Thanks for any input :)

Pete

Just say exactly what you have just said to us. They will probably say it was your centre bearing siezing causing this to happen. Make sure you watch them take it down and show you it turning. Then you can say that you have been told that because the n/s bolt was left loose it put more stress on the o/s bolt causing it to snap. Does the car drive o.k because they will just drill out bolts and refit existing centre bearing if its o.k and hopefully tighten it properly. Sorry to hear this mate it could of been serious. PJ

Thanks mate

It all seems fine now, I found a bolt that fitted, there's no extra vibration or anything. I'm just royally pissed off at what could have happened.

The bolt didn't snap - it's just gone, must have worked its way loose

Trouble is they're 3 hours away from me :(
