Can be something or nothing, either way its best have a firewall, ideally a hardware one, but if not you can get a many good free or low cost software ones like ZoneAlarm. Also, windows XP has a very basic one builtin that you can enable.

Computers have 'com' ports for commuication i.e. for the internet. It might be something to worry about. Do you have any anti-virus software installed on your PC.

The fact that you know they are happening is a good thing.

Bottom line is, use a good firewall and keep all your software patched up to date.

Norton and some other firewalls alert for no good reason at times. Software will use ports to communicate and if your firewall is set to high sensitivity, it will alert you all the time...

It's a mixture of sense and knowledge you need nowadays...

AVG will be the Virus scanner, do you have XP SP2 that has an "ok" firwall built in.

You could allways look for a free Firewall like Zone Alarm.

Anyway a port scan is usually a good indication that you have some spyware/adware on your system, but b4 you go down this road if your system is very slow compared to how it was then spyware it is and carry on reading this, if not and it's still fast as the day you got it then ingrore me LOL. OK then have you downloaded MSN PLUS!? Most of the PC's with Spyware have installed that bloody Plus pack, if you havent then I would say don't go on those type of sites again. And stop clicking pop-ups!!!

Get yourself Sypware Doctor (anti-spyware) and make sure you only have one Virus scanner one firewall and one ANTI SPYWARE/ADWARE program on your system
