Hi all while talking to a friend of mine mpg was mentioned of my z i said not very good he has a 4.6 range rover he has had converted to lpg with no power loss is it possible or not; he said a tank could go where spare wheel is i believe your talking £1200- £1500 for the latest systems

Must admit i've been concidering the same seeing as i only have an na it wouldn't have as much a problem being converted as a 400bhp turbo or something and make it half the price to run

...oh and i think Chunk had his converted to run on gas for a while only he hadn't got a pipe long enough from the kitchen to get to santa pod :rofl:

Wether its an NA or TT I think it would be sacrilidge to convert to gas, if people are worried about MPG buy a diesel, this is only my opinion of course and if you search you will find its been talked about before.

I suggest searching the forum for LPG before embarassing yourself further :p ;)

You'd need to do 20,000 odd miles to recoup the cost and you'll loose maybe 10% of the performance.

 

THat said, it might raise the value when you sell the car on.

That was one thing i was going to say, you'd own a unique zed which alot of people would love to buy if you did have it converted.

 

Theres a bit stigmatism against buying big engined cars now and lpg sells landies and range rovers like that so you'd wouldn't have a problem sellingit later on and if it didn't lubricate the valves just run some petrol through it once in a while i'm sure that'd be alright

I don't think a converted Zed would sell very well at all.

 

Think about why people buy them in the first place, and then ask yourself why stick a bloody ugly great hole in the side and loose the essence of petrolheadism.

lol, i must admit i like the smell of petrol burning off in the exhausts after a good thrash and it wouldn't be the same but for someone who wants to use it day to day doing 25,000 a year or something it'd be worth doing it but as we've discussed before all that'll happen is it'll lose its special edge driving a zed.

 

I try to drive mine as little as possible so its always a great experience :)

Finally someone who has a postive outlook on it.

 

Even if kitspectre doesn't decide to convert i may go ahead and do it next year, i think there's enough reasons to buy lpg especially if you plan to keep the car and i still think it would attract buyers who would otherwise have not looked at a 3 litre car. I know it'd grab my eye

 

I have lpg stations within 5 miles of my house in both directions and although annoyingly it doesn't affect the road tax (as you have to be registered from 2001 to have a reduced tax rate) i would be able to concider using my car as a long distance commuting tool.

 

The other option is to go ahead and do what i was planning and that's to buy a 4.0/5.0 V8 TVR and a smart car/205 diesal which means getting rid of the zed at some point which i don't really want to do :(

 

I love my zed but if i swap for a TT it becomes to expensive as a day to day car to run and the NA is starting to feel slow especially following the TTs on the way to the meets.

 

I think its just cold feet and i'm sure i'll be fine later though

LPG has an increased consumption of around 10% . If you predict 13 mpg - that would mean you are not even hitting 15mpg - so you either have a VERY heavy right foot, or you are running a very high power zed that drinks it up. Either way - RESPECT!!!

Yeah that's the thing when i owned a supra it was a shock but i'm so used to it now i just whack the petrol in without thinking about it twice :D

I'm doing about 13MPG with Petrol, lots of testing/speed trials (all on my private runway of course (like all Z owners)), so lots of right foot, and not very economical at the moment, can’t wait to get my car fully set up and do some runs, hopefully the consumption will improve.

 

What I was trying to say was that if you use you Z for fun, then even 13MPG is a known and manageable expense, better that the unknown ones (faults and the like)

Yeah i use mine most of the time for short journeys with heavy right foot. Pleasure journeys i call them :D
