Hiya All!!! I've just got a new CPU for my PC and installed it and it's working fine but need to update and flash my Phonix BIOS to get the speed up as it only running at 1.2GHZ at the moment and not 2Ghz like it should be!!!

Does anyone know a site where I could download some free BIOS software to update my Chip??? My HP PC is currently running Phonix BIOS with not CPU ajustable parameters so need an update that will!!!!

Thanks very much in advance!!!

Will it not be on the mainboard manufacturers site? Mine was :)

when you first boot the PC up & get the BIOS screen hit the pause button - on the bottom there are a group of letters & numbers - copy them down & post them here & i'll see what i can find.

Unfortunetly HP only have Phonix Bios 4.0 Version 6 which still won't let me adjust the CPU multiplyers to get the speed up...

try pressing esc then pause as often big brand pcs hide the bios data behind splash screens

Cheers, but i've done that too.. Disable the HP Splash screen and all you get is what Ram yer running, graphics card, and what drives are enabled!!! I know what numbers your on about but nothing on this bios!!! DOH!!! Have tried searching the net for some kind of Phonix Bios editor but there is just nothing... Guess I'm gonna have to get a new Mother board to utilize the extra power..

what about the help section of the bios? or maybe an about section in their somewhere? Assuming your board supports the speed and it is just a bios question might be worth emailing HP support, I certainly wouldnt throw the cash at a new board for no reason

open pc, look at board, on board should be model number and revision, goto manufacturers site not hp's site, find that board in their list, download the last bios update. flash with that fook hp's bios updates they aint 5hit, get the one from the manufacturers site. thats it.. should sort it out. if not i may be able to supply an updated board for you

when you boot up it wont be hp's version of the altered bios it will be the manufacturers original updated bios.

As Vijay says, you need to go to the Motherboard manufacturers site and look up the latest updates for your motherboard model (hopefully you noted it down when you replaced the chip). Most decent sites will tell you what chips they support and also what each BIOS update covers, it should also tell you if your new chip is supported in that motherboard.

The Pheonix BIOS will be specific to the motherboard especially where HP are concerned and I would have thought that HP would have updates under their support section.

Also I can't quite remember if it's F1 or DEL to get into the HP BIOS, just as you start the machine up.

hm - ok what model HP is it? I.E D5100

secondary pc builders use generic motherboards then they re-write the motherboard bios to suit their own purposes, he can install the manufacturers original bios on there and it wont effect a thing, usually all thats in there is a limited bios set up and the hp splash screen so it displays thier logos.

its the same with the biostar boards etc.. you can d/l an eprom flash patch to remove the splash screen instead of turning it off in bios.

using the manufacture's bios update that may actually be a newer revision than hp's will do no harm what-so ever.

the bios that is going in is the manufacturers generic bios and specific for that board.
