Can anyone in all honesty say the Z32 manual gearbox is very good?

I know I am pushing the boat out with the BHP but people with even stock cars have their 4th gear syncros let go, even with a quick shift its as sloppy as a 1989 Ford Escort

I know the 350Z is 17 years ahead of the Z32 but Nissan really have got this box sorted. It is the BEST gearbox I have ever had the pleasure of using

Mac still in search of what to do about the Z32 box :wack: :wack: :wack:

Well the bottom left hand corner, to me where it says AFR, on the scale of 10 to 20, looks to be indicating over 15.

if i'm reading it wrong then, what does it say?

Why is the boost in - at 186mph?

Get 350.... :D

At the end of the day these cars are 15+ years old. Try modding a fifteen year old ford or vauxhall see what probs you would encounter then. Yes autoboxes are crud but with regular oil changes can be better. The manual is a brilliant box for its age. people might get probs with synchro's but thats from

trying to change gear at looner speeds LOL. All in all the manual box is a good strong box. how many people have had there synchro's replaced ? Or oil changed regular ? They are not meant to last forever.

im shocked their are not more companys available that could rebuild internals of the 300 box for sensible cash. I know a gearbox is an expensive thing but the prices we are talking here (3-8k on a 15 y/o car) just seem daft really. Its ok if you want to run 800 HP, you expect to pay decent cash, but when your only talking around 450hp thats prohibitivly expensive. Anyone had any success with skyline boxes?

yes you could probably make a skyline box fit but there the same as the 300 box ie weak syncros in fact the R32 and R33 have the same syncros as the 300 so again not point in getting something which is not any better than the 300 box. same reason why i say about the 350 box, yes it might be a nice box but once you start running 400+ bhp on it will it last??? i would hazard a guess prob not or not for any longer than a zed box?

£3-£8k to rebuild ?? ...I was under the impression its about £600 !

p.s Power is not the cause of Syncro wear

Why does everyone keep saying the synchro failure is due to too much power being put through. Its more likely its the lack of oil changes and drivers just changing gear to fast. first try a thicker oil to help slow gears down if no good synchros are not expensive its the labour. A zed manual box is a good box but just misunderstood LOL

Oh yes it is LOL I keep telling you but it goes in one ear and out of the other.

Nend has broken the 4th gear Syncro on 3 brand new gearboxes not recon the last one was this so called uprated 99 spec box.He is running HKS 2530 turbos so if it is not power related then what the hell is it?

When you say that do you mean the gear kit?

Have you got it installed?

Yes I've seen the video too :D

Me too perhaps we ought to do a proper drifting vid for the south west LOL :nana2:

heres the next question for you's all, how much should i be paying to get the gearbox oil changed to mt90 (think thats right)? dont really fancy doing it myself and dont want my pants pulled down over the price. j

The gearbox is fine, it was never intended to take stupid power so you can't fault it for breaking.

Also of zedz go through life without the gearbox oil getting changed much, this kills boxes.

My car is 14 years old, has done 66k and has a good service history, the gearbox is fine....

Daz if you read quotes from over the pond then they will tell you that they are good for 600bhp and I have found from a personal experience that this is not true but I am about to take the plunge on an uprated gearbox so I will post my review when it is fitted.
