Guys, im just putting togeather a site for a friend in html, but i have heard rumours that google doesnt use meta tags to look up the page? How many other search engines have binned the meta tags? Whats being used instead?

Also what sort of money do people charge no-days for multi page html coding? (Just for referance really...)

Thanks all

I charge £300-£400 for a plain html site but i'm cheap :D

Google uses the following in this order:

1. Your domain name

2. The title in the browser window

3. Anything as h1 tags

4. Anything in bold tags

as keywords from your page.

I use meta tags as well, google does have a 3 month turnaround though. Takes ages to update.

My page still shows up as it was 6 months ago :(

Blooody monopoly they have now

You might also want to use the pay per click they use Google adwords to get your friends site anywhere near the top.

Thare's no dead set answer just stick to the tips above and keep it as simple as possible. google prefers simple pages and gauges them on readablilty

Hope that helps but give me a message if you get stuck

supanames is pretty good for web hosting. I have used them quite a few times and for £33 for two years, including a domain name. It aint bad.

I tend to use ARHoster.com

10 quid for hosting and 5.99/7.99 for .co.uk/.com respectively
