I've bee nthr proud owner of my Z for almost a week now but the one huge downside to the car is the really REALLY bad ride. No matter the road surface I get chucked all over the car are pretty much any speed. It's particularly bad at 80+ mph when my rear actually left the seat and I thought the car was going to take off.

 

The car has been lowered within an inch of it's life and the suspension feels very hard so I expected a rough ride but this is almost undrivable. I've no idea what suspension is on it as it was bought already lowered but my question is - is the ride generally tough on the the standard suspension and if it is then it's probable that it's just been made a whole lot worse by adding the aftermarket stuff.

 

The alternative of course is the shocks are knackered or something.

 

Any ideas/comments welcome.

jack it up and see if it has a coilover setup which you can raise the ride hight.

if not you may have adjustable shocks which you could change to a softer setting. failing that non adjustables or knackered shocks would need replacing.

mine has kyb shocks on it which give a firm ride but not bone rattling.

The ride on the standard suspension is not soft, but neither is it firm, kind of what you'd expect for a standard road/sports car I'd guess. That's why many people go for something a little firmer.

What profile are your tyres?I have a Zeal setup (very hard and low)changed my tyre profile from 40 to 45 and what a differance in ride quality.

235/40/18 front

245/45/18 rear

Yeah, that doesn't sound right. With the standard setup you feel the bumps because it's not soft, but at speed, on a decent smooth road, it really ought to be a pretty silky ride.

stock ride is firm(sporty) but not harsh, quite smooth really. When it was launched is was praised for its ride quality due to its clever multi-link setup, compared to the current range of Sports cars.

 

You need to find out what shocks and springs you have fitted, it will be written on them somewhere. Although the first thing to check is the top of the struts in the engine bay for adjustablility.

if your car feels like its hopping outa line, it may be knackered bushes.
