I suppose it depends on what you want to use it for? Gaming? Office stuff?

Sounds fine for what I do - internet, office work, a few games, DVD recording etc....

I would guess at £600 - £750 for that spec??? I'm not sure what percentage Dell put on top of the basic architecture?

With a 256mb graphics card you should be able to do just about anything so yeah its looks fine. In my experience Dell give you plenty of power for your money but the build is often a little iffy. I'd certainly consider buying another as they are good value for money, although I'm hooked on Sony's now!

The spec is fine as you're almost up to desktop standards there, but it really depends what you want to use it for. If it's just for browsing the internet and a few letters then it's to high a spec and you're wasting money. If you want to play games on it or run multiple apps, then it's spot on.

I assume it has WiFi and Bluetooth, I'd be suprised if it didn't these days.

Oh, and make sure you run the battery down every now and then. I've been using laptops for years and tend to have it sitting in a docking station most of the time, so the battery is always fully charged and they only last a couple of years like this. I try to run mine down about once a month, helps a bit, but they all go in the end.

Gaz

I got a Toshiba with a similar spec from Dixons for £499, so there's your price guide, and mine is also wireless enabled

be very surprised if you could get a toshiba from dixons with similar specs for that money?

would have thought it would be a celeron

as a few have said pretty much will do most things, but again as above if its just for browsing and general use maybe a bit ott

recently bought two laptops and both were about the grand mark

Dell do good laptops at very good prices. My work laptop is a Inspiron 9300 - 17" screen (1900x1200 rez) and decent gfx for games :) Its great though the quality could be a touch better. Cost £1400 9 months ago. So i guess you could get a similar one at £1200 now. Oh yeah battery life is 90 mins tops. Hence why i got a 2nd battery. The laptop in a bag with all my gubbings really hurts my shoulder if i carry it around for more than 15 mins. So its more of a mobile workstation than a true laptop.
