Wahoo new wheels!!! Work in progress.....

Just met the mighty Muffy, what a top bloke!

After my accident with radiator i had to fit 4 18" wheels and two tyres into a mini :( hmm so Muffy offered to drive halfway which was a god send as with my childbirthing hips i can't quite fit in the new buckets in the min lol Cue dead legs and feet after 30 mins drive :(

Took the seat out the passenger side and just got them to fit okay.

Started scrubbing up the rims to see what i've got and i'm very pleasantly suprised.....

I'm taking all the bolts out (very slow) to make sure i get every little bit of dirt off them. The soaking in diesal for 3 months works a treat, the bolts are undoing nicely :)

I haven't started cutting the pits out yet but they should look stunning when i'm finished! So so pleased. :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :nana2: :nana2:

Cheers Muffy!

It was a squeeze even without the seat, fell over going round a roundabout and pinned my finger to the gear lever which was bloomin painful :(

Worth every penny and mile to get them though :)

160 with two good tyres! what a bargain.

Sending the damaged one to derby to have it bent back into shape unless anyone knows of any good wheels repairers in the district who are quick and cheap??

Be careful takin the parts off the split rims. Nobody like refurbing them, something to do with insurance.

The only company I found that will do mine is down in Birmingham :headvswal for £500 the set :headvswal :headvswal

Yours looking good tho :D

Bet they dont touch split rims ;)

The other folk I found do the refurbs on ferrari, porsche etc.

I'll see if I can dig out there details.

Mine need pulling to bits, stripping the hub and a repaint.

Rims to be polished and then have diamond cut edges.

One day soon....

poop, they do two piece but not 3 piece like mine :( crapolla

If anyone knows who could straighten out the rim and skim it without having to strip the whole wheel let me know

Awesome, found a top guy called Alan, works as a wheel repair specialist in Brum, lives about 20 miles from me in Water Orton. SweeneySherlock passed me onto him (or rather his dad who then passed me on to him) had a chat with him for 10 mins and he says pop round any night with the wheel and he'll sort it for me.

Asked how much to have the rim straightened and skimmed clean of kerb marks and he says under 40 quid! Bonus :D

Also got jeff faulks to fit the two tires after i've cleaned the wheels up for a tenner each and another mate gets tyres at trade price so 50 quid a piece or so for the two rear ones.

Its all coming together slowly.....

Speak to Funkysi, he just had his Split rims refurbished, and the finish is outstanding. A Bargain too.

That's not bad at all is it?

This is what they should look like when they're finished...

I'm hoping i can do most of it myself, i'm a patient worker and its more satisfying to do it myself but think the pics below show just how bad that one wheel is, don't fancy trying to fix this myself lol :D

Christ has it been that long since i last worked on them?

Well i finally got off my arse and got down to the knuckle ripping exercise of removing all the seized bolts of the wheels this saturday, 7 and a half hours later and i have this for my troubles... 160 rusted bolts, 1 of them snapped but the rest came out in 8 hours of hand bending torture  but it's done yay!!! :D

Rims are being split and polished up this week i hope then i'm sandblasting and painting the centres black this weekend with about 10 coats of laquer to stop the brake dust attacking the paint. Update to come...

Wow - that's a lot of bolts to ease out.

Bet they'll look great when they're done.

I hope so, retail they were 1500 a set without tyres and there's not many sets on the road :)

Just need to pop to bolt worthy in nottingham this week to buy another 160 stainless allenhead bolts and i'll be set for re-assembly this weekend yay! :hyper: :hyper:
