Was driving up to muffy's today to go and pick up my new wheels and this happened at 70mph....

attachment.php?attachmentid=21936 attachment.php?attachmentid=21937

Scared the sh*t out of me to have my windscreen covered in brown water and steam come out the bonnet. Was shaking for 20 mins after :(

Any idea whether its repairable? I thought about bonding in a strengthening metal pipe and then bonding in the plastic sleeve again, would this be strong enough?

Or am i looking at a new radiator? :(

I've dropped Topless a message regarding his 30k rad he has for 35 nicker so i'll probably just do that and see if i can sort out mine to flog on fleabay after i get it out. Just hope i can get it back on the road soon, i have a big meeting tuesday :(

Was thinking koyo but not till i've got these 3 e commerce sites done and the money in the bank then its respray time and gearbox cooler and koyo rad :)

If you think you can fix it then you probably can, give it a go and keep an eye on it, if it doesn't work get a new one. JMO

The real question is, is there a more serious reason as to why that happened....

Good luck.

I was thinking the same thing myself. You have one thing pop then you patch that and the next thing goes. Worries me greatly :(

It's a common problem on NA rads - mine started to go as well but a quick call to AndyZ for a spare and problem solved. :D

The spare has been in for about a year now and no further problems :D

Its a poor design really. I'm bonding a 30mm pipe inside the rad and mounting the old piece back over the top and leaving it to cure tomorrow before i test it but that should hopefully hold for a couple of days if not forever but i'll get a koyo later this summer when i start modding for performance.... :D

ahh well i'll just do that for the time being then there's no rush to send me the new one just wondered if anyone else had done a repair and how long it'd lasted.

Should have the new one ready to fit by the end of the week

Shhhhhh  Don't want to think anything like that otherwise i won't sleep ;)

Ahhh!, I see!-trying the old ''ignorance is bliss'' technique :D

Common problem from overtightening onto plastic end tank. I would'nt risk repair, buy another (or koyo). If it leaks, and you overheat you'll risk serious damage.

Damage to blocks/heads occur so easily with overheating on the VG, and the temp gauge is often useless, giving no warning.

...see if i can sort out mine to flog on fleabay after i get it out...

are you serious??? a temp fix for you would be OK in an emergency. bin it!

hehe i'm joking :D it's being binned believe me. i'll only keep it till the replacement arrives i don't even think it'll last that long to be honest

Mate I had the same thing happen on my N/A on the motorway.

I spent ages trying to get a second hand one and that was fooked after a couple of weeks too.

I eventually forked out for a brand new OEM one. but if I had the chance to make those decisions again I would go KOYO everytime.

Save yourself some time and money by listening to this advice...

The spout has just broken off mine too, i'm waiting for my new Koyo to arrive from Chris@Getgreddy, i personaly don't think it's worth risking a repair on something that can scrap your engine.

I'll be ordering my koyo this summer, my babys having the following:

99 Nose

Smoothed Tailgate

Koyo rad and Gearbox oil cooler

18" Speedline Wheels (working on them as we speak)

Mongoose exhaust (via chunk)

Lightened pulley wheel maybe?

New seat leather, retrimmed interior

and finally

Respray

Now all i gotta do is save up some money lol.......

Same thing happened to me on Thursday. I'd only just picked up my new NA from the Garage and was driving home when it happened. Luckily I have 12months warranty and the garage got me a replacement radiator the next day. One thing I'm worried about is it is not a direct OEM replacement but one made by AVA the p/n - DN2027 300zx-Maxima '88 onwards. Does anyone know if this is for correct or for a Z31 instead??? It looks the same size but does not have the pressure screw next to the hose on the left? Does anyone know if this is a direct replacement? Any advise would be appreciated. It's going into the garage to be done this Wednesday.

Cheers,

Dom
