Since there have been a couple of threads recently regarding ECU checks and the fault codes they throw up I thought I'd check mine. It came up with 42(fuel temp sensor) and 34 (detonation sensor), is this bad? I've not noticed any difference in performance or any untoward noises, does the ECU store codes and then need resetting in some way or do I have an expensive problem to fix?

You'll be in safety mode (retarded Timing, 6.5psi boost and richer fuel maps), probably since last owner had it. Once fixed there is a massive difference in performance :D Have seen a drop of 80-100hp in safety mode on the Rolling Road.

corrects its self when ignition is turned off then back on but will still store fault

the ecu will log faults for 50 engine starts then if the fault is not current then it is deleted.bridge out the plug to the det sensor with a 100 ohm resistor from maplins.this is not recommended if you dont know what detonation sounds like as you could melt a piston.it will prove that the wiring is good back to the ecu if comes back code 55,no faults.
