As the title really? Will any dot 5.1 do or special grades? Ive heard some banter about being compatible with the seals?

Also how difficult is the ABS unit to get too?

oh right, i dont really know what the DOT stands for (?), and the numbers? I am after something that will do a good job and hold up for "fast" road use.

done a search but couldnt find any mention of types of fluid :headvswal

Also, best place to get braided brake lines? And price?

DoT is Department of Transport.

The number is the spec it has been approved for.

DoT 4 is fine for the road. If you go fast, you can get a 'racing' DoT 4 with a high boiling point.

There are problems with DoT 5 - I can't remember all of them but to do with mixing with existing fluid, contaminating and other things.

I once spent 15 minutes on the phone to Silkolene's chief R&D chemist and he insisted DoT 4 was the one to go for (he races a hill climb car too I think).

DOT 4 it is then... Will be draining the old fluid out and flushing the lines, but DOT 4 it is.. anyone here sell it? What about the hoses?

Oilman will sell it.

I use Castrol Response Super DOT 4.1, compatible with many other types and available in Halfords etc

Probably only a litre, but if you only buy one you know you'll run out before you finish !

think im going to get 1.5 of the super dot4 stuff. Seems the best way to go... whats the difference between dot 4 and 4.1? is there one at all?

The nissan manual says do not use 5.1.I use dot 4 with my 324mm DBA skyline discs with standard calipers from smithy with no problems.

noticed the super verison at halfords today, still no idea how much is needed for a zed though?

about 1500ml mate....i bought 4x 500ml bottle of Motul RBF600 racing fluid and i have the majority of the 4th bottle left ;)
