Ive got a TT auto with the following prob.....

 

Whilst trying to start my car there was a harsh grinding noise (like if you turn the key when the engine is already running) and it wouldn't start.

 

I then put it into drive and started it and it was fine.....and still is even when starting now from park.

 

Any ideas? Its happened once before.....

could be the starter motor on its way out

Or damaged ring-gear,depends on where the motor stops if you get the noise.

dont condem starter,common problem is the bolts work loose in the bellhousing and the starter motor,works out slighty squwiff to the ringgear,if its bolted on fine,then a good replacement starter motor should do the trick

 

ask ricerocket or andy z in the traders section,should only cost £40-£50 second hand :)
