Seeing as I have to spend a wedge do you have any advice if I should get anything checked out, where I should get it done, how much I should pay etc???

Go on... feed me with your fountain of knoweldge lol!

Not sure who your nearest Specialist is, but take it to Ztech, Zen, Zwox or Southwestz. (all in traders section)

Are you sure its head gasket ? Unfortunatly, the cause of the problem is undoubtably your cooling system so make sure you get that fixed too, and fingers crossed its just the HG and not the block or heads.

Well I used to live in T Wells and used a guy in Fordcombe for my Z. He was good and did reliable work.

Just thought I would mention it as it really just is down the road.

PM me if you want some more details.

Just had mine done at Ztech and cost me £1250+vat.

They are good and check all things while its out, like turbos etc...

thanks guys, I think its the head gasket,, any sure ways of telling!? :)

Peter,

Sorry to hear about your troubles, it’s prompted me to sign up with the AA today

Bet you wish you still had that old Z!.

If you take your oil filler cap off, it'll be soaked in oil, or covered in white scum

good news... I think...

after the aa trawled me home from stoke on trent becuase he told me my hg was bust, I started my car up the next day and it seems to be working fine, there is no oil or white stuff in the radiator water and it does not splutter water out.. must have been an air blockage maybe?

What do you guys reckon!?

:-) Good news, but try and find out what's caused the problem, cos if you overheat too often the gasket will go eventually

Doh! ignore the oil on the oil filler cap, you'd be in trouble if there was no oil on it! :-)

oil in the water or water in the oil is not always the case,a definiative test would be to use a HG test kit,it involves using a kit that shows up if there is conbustable gases in the cooloing systym ;)

secondly the car may start and run fine,it may also suffer with a hunting idle,it may also drink alot of coolant,it may also cause more dmage if you dont get it checked properly,so even if the car runs,it may still have a problem, normally the AA do a HG test?

Peter,

Woodlands garage should be able to do this test for you.
