Just about to get myself some breakdown cover, the family car had cover from the manufacturer, the station car isn’t covered but has been pretty reliable, but I guess that the Z could drop me in it one day, and a friends sons Z blew a head gasket this weekend and left him stranded about 200+ miles way, which has prompted me.

Taking onboard some of the comments in earlier posts, is there a general recommendation for the Z (AA, RAC, Greenflag or another). I’d guess that if it died a way from home and couldn’t be fixed by the roadside and a local garage didn’t have a clue, then I’d want it to go to one of our traders and I’d make my own way home.

Must measure up my factory spare Vs the 18” x 35 rears and 18” x 40 fronts, or better still see if it’s drivable.

RAC have always been very helpful and have offered to take my car over 200 miles to Zedtech when I was only 2 miles from home on the back of a transporter for no extra charge.

I've been with the AA for years and found them great.

I remember when the RAC became privatised there was some scandal about partol men doing the hard sell on batteries at the roadside to increase profit.

My AA's just expired - I might change to Green Flag as it's cheaper, my bike is covered through my insurance and the Zed never breaks down (that's cursed it!).

I've heard green flag is sh1te.

I dont like the AA as a company in a whole cause they've ripped me off before!!!!

So im with the RAC.

Shame I joined after my head gasket blew miles from home, doh

Try your current insurance company first.

A lot of them will arrange it for a fee and add it on to your premium.

Mines do and I got trailered back home, about 70 miles no problem.

Alan......

I'm with the AA. I've passed my "advanced test" and I'm a member of I.A.M. so I get a 25% discount. They didn't even check I was telling the truth AFAIK.

I was just about to join green flag, got told the cover is handled by local contractors so they get there quicker, plus there is no limit to the amount of call outs!

I have AA something 200 which means if they are unable to sort it it goes to a specalist garage of my choice no matter where in the country. We have the same for the REX too.

Sorry think it's Breakdown 200

I'm with Greenflag, and if you don't call them out, you get a 25% discount the following year. Mind you when I did call them out, they certainly turned up quick, but with the wrong wagon, one with a spectacle lift on the back which is useless when it comes to Zeds. So he then called in and they sent a body off jobber, which had a steep short ramp to mount it, which just happened to be higher than my front skirt. By now it was p*****g down with rain, I was bursting for a p**s, and he was sending for the parking removal type wagon. Luckily we found some wood on the verge and was able to drive on that first which then lifted the skirt over the edge of the bed. I have to say, their recovery drivers do seem to be planks.
