What started as a simple bulb change, turned into a 10 hour project.

Everything was going fine, till I dropped the headlight bulb down behind the headlight. Despite half an hour of poking and grabbing, I had to decide if I was going to remove the headlight to gain access, or just buy another bulb.

I decided to just whip of the headlight, lol, yeah right

After much head scratching, I decided I'd better consult the forum. Kept seeing words like "inner arch removal" and contorsionist", so went back outside hoping my fingers had become thinner, longer and more flexible

No chance, it was time to get serious

Followed the guides to get the headlight out (thanks for everyone's posts on that), and finally managed to grab that elusive bulb.

At this point I should have just put the thing back in, but holding that headlight in my hands I had that thought, you know the one.....

"While I have this out, I wonder if I should maybe do that chrome conversion thing they all talk about"

After all, it was highly unlikely I would ever have the thing out again through choice. I would of course need to take the other headlight out, but I knew what I was doing by now.

So, heated up the oven, ready to make some baked Zedlight pie

I had some of that "chrome" paint from B&Q, so thought I'd give it a go.

Oven trick worked a treat, lenses came away from the plastic no trouble.

Painted the grey in-lays, re-assembled, and voila!

Here you go. Unfortunately it was dark by the time I was finished, lol, but I'll get some daytime pics in the morning.

Hope you like...

I've been thinking about trying that too.

Did you use the chrome Plasti-Kote?

Yeah, that's the stuff. Not exactly chrome, but pretty close, and goes on very nicely. Even if you get the odd bit off fluff, you'll never see it once the glass is on.

 I know where to go next time i need a small job done to the zed! Nice one!

That looks very good Bud.I did the exact same process."BIG MISTAKE" Dont want to pi$$ on your parade Fella but after a short while it all blistered up.So tried paint stripper,it started to remove the chrome paint ,then went all weird and set like concrete in great lumps that even a screw driver and hammer would not knock off.Ended up having to bin the inserts and buy another set of lights .They are now chromed.Hope you dont have the same prob.Costly mistake.Fook knows what they put in their Plasticote & Primer.

Darn it, I replied to this post but it dissapeared :(

Oh well, here goes again...

Maybe it was the primer you used, I didn't bother with any.

Also, I put the assembly back in the oven to heat up the sealant, so hopefully the paint was baked on properly.

I'll let you all know if it starts doing nasty things.

Good Luck with yours Bud.I have done a few headlights and I would not use that type of paint again LOL.
