Hi all,

my car seems to idle about 2000rpm when cold. it also takes a long time to drop down to 1000rpm when warm and never goes below. is this normal? anybody got any ideas? its a 1990 n/a manual.

i get exactly the same thing, too.. but my idle drops to about 850rpms once it's warmed p correctly.. can take 10 - 15 mins at times to settle at this idle though..

Thanks for the tips lads. Just fitted 2 new airfilters and it seems to have reduced the idle a bit but its still too high.

I cleaned my throttle bodies yesterday and my idle has risen to 1600rpm in park and 1100 in drive i did disconnect the battery for an hour must say they were very dirty.

Whats my solution any one near by to help i dare not touch any screws in case i mess things up even more :hyper:

The ECU will need to "self learn" again, and you may find that after a long drive, or several drives the idle will be settled by the ECU. If not, then follow the instructions above.

..or Zen garage are probably your closest specialists

now your throttle bodies are cleaned you want to check your TPS and throttle balance, and set the base Idle and then let the tps reset itself

Base idle adjustment should be the last thing to touch as you may just be lowering it to cover up another problem, the steps in the links are for an erratic idle but some may help.
