Help please...

 

I have wired in a new DVD Headunit, and seperate motorised screen today. The wiring was straight forward, but had to hardwire it. This new unit does not have an orange wire, which I believe is the 'Illumination' wire on most units, as with the unit I removed, but may be wrong :confused: as the wire had 'ILL' written on its tag :confused: So all is wired up, but the orange wire has no where to go, so left it unconnected. The player and screen work perfectly.

 

Everything appeared OK, until I turned my lights on tonight. I now have no side lights, rear lights, or instrument lights (speedo cluster).. Main beam/ high beam are OK.

 

I tried connecting the orange wire to a live feed... when I do, my side lights and instrument lights come on, without actually switching the lights on.. Nothing happens when I connect the orange to earth. Fuses appear OK in the fusebox.

 

I am totally confused :headvswal Obviously this orange wire needs connecting to something, but I can't for the life of me figure out what :headvswal HELP PLEASE ANYONE IN THE KNOW :bow:

O' sorry. Yes, it's connected to ignition live RED, and permanent live feed for stereo memory YELLOW.

Illumination is almost obsolete, most modern ICE doesn’t use it, so you should insulate (tape will do) the orange wire (as it is live when your lights are on). Don’t connect the orange wire to live, otherwise your lights will be on all the time your ignition is on, also you could do damage to the lamp warning system.

 

Remove the orange wire from the ignition live, and check your fuse again.

The cars orange wire is not connected to anything at the moment, and is now insulated. Is there a specific fuse that operates these non working lights? I have checked the main fuse box in the engine bay, and all are OK.

check the fuses in the footwell.

Have you checked the fuses next to the accelerator pedal?

Many thanks to all... Had a blown fuse in the footwell, just replaced it...Everything working A OK.
