i have put 1.2mm boost jets in, but the auto box seems to be slipping between changing gears could this be down to the extra power going through the box (it didn't do it before) i have had enough of the auto's :headvswal it's time to get a manual conversion done

Probably but it should hold the power easy.

Chances are it was on the verge of slipping anyway.

while mine was an auto it held the jets (+ other minor mods) without a problem...

...

...ok it blew up a few months later. and in went the manwell

check the autobox fluid mate. i think one of the ecu diagnostics is to do with the autobox as well although i could be wrong.

have you noticed any extra power since fitting the jets?

Guess there is a trend there with length after boost upgrade. Should the oil cooler I am adding help this any or just prolong it a couple of hundred miles?

i have noticed a differance in power, ryan did say something about my auto that it doesn't change as it should so the jets might make it worse i'm going to take them out and see

Make sure that you have the correct oil level in the gearbox, its very important, a lot of people get it wrong how to check the oil. make sure the gearbox has been run for at least 5mins and you have selected all the gears, (P, D, 1, 2, 3, AND R, then back to P )

And then with the car running check the oil level.

i will check but Z-TECH have just changed the auto oil about 4 months ago. i must ask ryan what he ment about the box again

Nothing helps. Trust me. Auto transmission sucks. Even if is in good condition, after few high boost runs wont change gears. Find a manual transmission and do a swap. That what i did long time back and was the best mod i did on my car.

Don't rant it then. ;)

nissan fitted 2turbos for a reason :D

have to agree, some people buy a tt and say they never thrash it, so why but a tt IIMHO

and dont anyone say just incase i need the extra power

Sorry but this is all cr@p from a few unlucky members.

I ran my Jap spec auto at 17psi with no oil cooler for nearly 2 years with no problems before the clutches started slipping and I really give my car a hard time.

I've done boost/ECU upgrades on around 35 Z's with nobody mentioning their auto box has died shortly after.

but...

on EVERY MANUAL Z i've done the stock clutch has started slipping within a month, many on the drive home!

Some of these auto boxes are heading for 17 years old so what do you expect when you stick an extra 50bhp through them and start thrashing them? There's a lot of 15 year old Z's showing 35000 miles too which is obviously B.S and changed on the way over from Japan... they've probably done more like 100,000 at that age.

Sure, go for a manual conversion if your box has died as it's cheaper in the long run if you're keeping the car to just replace a clutch but there's nothing wrong with the auto box (especially if you fit the recommended cooler to a Jap spec).

It's also worth considering a HKS ALC which speeds up the changes and is meant to reduce wear on the clutch packs as it doesn't slip as much between changes.

Agreed! I reconditioned my old auto Box 2years ago and did the boost upgrade at the same time with chip and never got round to fitting my oil cooler and my box is fine! and occaisonally i admitt i put the Tubs to there Full Potential! :D

its a number of things

1. the problem i have been getting with kick down at 30-35mph

2. this is my second box

3. i have never been happy with the performance (might be down to auto might not)

4. i have never thrashed my auto i put new jets in take it for one run and this happens

i was thiniking about getting ryan to build me one of his auto's as i've heard good things for approx £1500 but wouldn't have to put a billet TC to get the best out of it which will bump up the price alot. thats why im thinking get a manual with uprated clutch

You Could put a Manual gearbox in But then you would need to drop it every now and then to replace the clutch!

i would speak to Ryan about an Uprated Auto Box! it may be the better option Depending on your requirements!

How long do you expect the Manual clutch to last?

Oh dear 3000 miles is not good at all!

Yes i would ask about both if i was in your shoes! :)

But was it a recon box or just another second hand one that was already worn?

I wouldn't spend £1500+ on an auto box unless you really prefer it.

You can get the manual bits for around £500 to £600 quid and pay someone to do it.

it was second hand. i dont know what to go for :headvswal i would like to go in a zed with one of ryan's auto box's in to help make my mind up

No, you would fit an RPS clutch, and then never have to worry about it.

How much longer do you get Out of These RPS Clutches compared to standard Clutches depending on style of driving?

Longetivity is'nt an issue. The problem with clutch is that the Stock clutch cant handle big power increases. RPS clutches are stronger, to handle much more torque.

Stocks probably last 70-100k on standard power, so RPS would last longer I expect.
