Paypal

Got a right PITA story to tell

A member had several hundreds of pounds worth of goods about 6 weeks ago all fine, i gets an email off Paypal on Monday saying that the payment was "unauthorized" so they have taken hundreds of pounds out of my account while they investigate

I rang them up and they said that the customer can recall money paid via Credit card upto 180 days later    WTF how can anyone of us who uses Paypal trade with them under those kind of circumstances

The only way you or i will be covered if is the buyer is verified and then we are covered under the seller protection process. This is something VERY serious and we need to work together as a club to protect each other.

Anyone got any ideas, we need everyone to become verified ASAP

I'm verified :) Most of my trade income is via paypal.

Yeah its a big risk Chris, and nothing short of a scam on paypal's behalf :(

Spend a couple of hours reading through the 'ebay community' forum, there's plenty of material on it.

You have one of two options IMO:

1) Don't accept paypal from unverified members

2) Add X% to all your prices to cover the odd clawback :(

After you pass a certain value of transactions (£4.5k IIRC) through paypal they perform a few extra steps of verification of your bank details, address, email address and phone number. Then your are 'verified'. Fook knows how this then enables you to be protected  It's just a reason for them to make the vast majority ineligible via their small print.

Happened to me fella a couple years ago and am still chasing the fooker  nearly got him a couple times and turns out he's done others as well.

I now offer paying through the post office so you get the good ole cash in your hand.

oh if you get no where with this, feel free to post his details so no one else falls foul.

Whats this mate ? not heard of it. The member has said he'll sort it, BUT in the mean time my Paypal account is into a minus figure so any money that comes in would just be clearing his recovered money

That would be me :x: A genunie mistake, and I went out of my way to resolve it. Unfortunatly others may not be so lucky, and it highlighted a major flaw in the paypal system.

For established companies, with a good credit history there are other options for Credit/Debit card payments.

A Merchant account with a major bank gives you the option of a PDQ Machine (for processing card details manually) or instant payment authoristation for online payments, with the use of a Online Merchant Gateway, with low charges, typically around 1-1.5%

For business that have not been established for over a year, or have had previous credit issues with the bank, you will have difficulty obtaining an online Merchant account. There are Online Payment Burea's which will handle the processes for you, but expect to pay anything from 4-6% charges then have to wait anything from 2-4 weeks for your funds to be released.

If anyone would like further information, let me know.
