the other day i was driving slowly down a road and the car just stalled, it fired up again straight away so i thought it was me who'd accidently stalled it,

then today the exact same thing happened again, but this time im sure it was the car.

ive done a quick search and noticed a similar thing happens when the PTUs fooked, but apparently the car doesnt start again until the PTUs cooled down, were as on my problem the car fires up first time.

although i have noticed the car turns over for longer before firing up then it used to, as it used to fire up as soon as the key was turned.

any ideas peeps

cheers si

p.s. forgot to mention my cars a jap spec '90 twin turbo

thanks again

Hello mate,

Is it stalling while you have the gas on or coasting?

Hello mate,

good question!!!

pretty sure ive got the gas on. SEEMS to be idleing ok.

both times i was driving around 5-10mph

A faulty CAS can give the same symptoms as a dodgy PTU. I had a problem where the car would just cut out while driving, looked as if it was a PTU problem but ended up simply being a dirty connector on the CAS :)

you have a series 1 ptu mate.

Si, if it's of any use to you I had similar problems the last couple of weeks at low speeds. My brake/power steering fluid was low, topped it up and hasn't happened since! I think series 2 PTU's are black in colour whereas series one was silver coloured . sorry if i'm wrong anyone.

is is deifinatly a 94,check seatbelts for confirmation!

most series 2 ptu's were fitted to j spec cars so your may of missed out if yours is uk.94 for being the last year of production in the uk,they probably got stingy :wack:

check tps is at apropriate reading 0.44 - 0.48 -+ easiest way is to test via voltmeter put black lead to earth and place the live probe in to the centre white wire coming of the plug on the tps, grey plug not the black one on the tps, then ajust via the 2screws.

a high or low reading can cause stalling especially on autos and can also hamper performance if not set up correctly with the above value

whats the tps

throttle position sensor, little black box thingy on the right and side of the plenum

whats the tps

tps in pic white wire in the middle is where you take the positive via a multimeter
