Noticed more and more cars driving around with black electrical insulating tape at the top and or bottom of their numberplate.

just a strip closeish to the characters.

Anyway - now been told its because for some reason the cameras cant recognize the characters because the thick black tape strip joins up the characters?

Anyone else heard this.

Only posted becuase I counted 5 going down motorway yesterday.

i'd only heard of that spray on stuff up til now. supposed to work a treat though!

makes no odds, if the ticket cant automatically be issued, ie the camera cant read the numberplate electronically then it goes off to some poor soul to sift through them manually, so they will still get you.

I know of one thing that works. It involves staying below the speed limit. The rest is a secret

no anti glare stuff works..neither does the cd in the window, all crap.

only way they wont get your number, is by not having a plate.

if you speed througha live camera, your gonna get a ticket

drove past a speed trap this weekend doing 70 in a 60... shit myself untill i remembered i had no front number plate! been like that for 3 years and i have not been pulled yet! and low infra-red mat black paint helps!

Ultimately though by havinng a number plate that can't be read would lead to the possibly of beinng arrested for perverting the course of justice and that would end up in Crown Court and probably a custodial sentence all to avoid a £60 fine and three points. Really worth it?

i know the other one, but as yet i havent managed to find a Klingon who is willing to sell their cloaking device for a reasonable price.

yes the spray on stuff does owrk.. seen it for myself. but its an offence now to use it, if a cop car comes up behind you and puts his camera on you and sees that the plate doesnt show on his screen they will stop you and book you for that.

cant see how any spray stuff would work(black hammerite excepted of course), as surely to make it invisible to a camera would make it invisible to the naked eye? Then the cops wont need a camera of anykind to see what youve done.

prob not, quite a few people dont have one fitted.... the police just give you a rectification notice....

the spray stuff works by polarising the light, cameras only pick up certain wavelengths of refracted light, most speed camers and police car cameras cant see the plate when this is used., the human eyes can pick up a much larger amount of wavelengths than cameras.

not quite sure on that man. the human eye CANT detect it because it is transparent. it works by reflecting the light hence the cameras detect the reflected light which obscures the plate below.

havent tried it but cant see why it wouldnt work.

I've no first-hand experience, but I reckon the stuff works - Was watching "road wars" last night and the number plate looked blank on the video So they booked the driver for that!

There is a difference between the law (must be clearly legible from the rear) and what the camera (>10ft in the air) can see. There is no requirement, as it stands, for you to have a number plate that is legible to cameras, only to a policeman stood behind your car.

As i understand the spray chucks back the flash at the camera to "whiteout" the photo. The idea of the black tape is that, as roumour has it, if the number plate is not clear, the operators are no lomger allowed to guess as to what the obscured letter might be. I believe this is the reason behind the recent clapdown on "altered" spacing/ fonts/ sizes. Tho am sure one of our more LAWful members knows better :)

Used to use a flip up postage stamp plate on the EXUP wouldn't be to hard to make one up for the car I suppose .. How about an LCD plate that you could turn on and off or scroll !! now I'd buy that for a Dollar !! :)

only thing that works 100% is this , that spray may work but now they have digital cameras so no need for flashing !!

this works 100% and is excellent as u can see the effect it gives below. can be seen from behind but not at the angle the camera takes the pic or any other angle.

tbh brakedust, your car looks fookin awesome ... may i have it?

cheers mate :D

maybe in a few months! just bought a house and things are starting to get very very tight :headvswal

there was a company doing it not so long ago called safe plate try , them on their web site http://www.safeplate.co.uk i have it on my zed its not noticeable i have been followed by the rozzers right behind me even at night , but when i have triggered a flash i have never had a fine however these 'specs' cameras are a different thing all together 'satelite positioning exact calculated speed' i think its an anacronym for maybe our more learned members would beg to differ ...

good luck but remember ....tony blahs big brother is watching

There is another way to fool a camera...

Infrared is invisible to the naked eye but shows up white on camera (try holding your TV remote at your camera phone)

Could wire up some TV remote spec infrared LED's in the letters on your plate, but obviously If you're cought It wasn't my idea :x:
