tooley,

go with adsl if you can get it on your area, or cable modem if possible

isdn is not much faster than modem, its 64k.

you get a faster dial and connect, but after that, it is only a little bit better.

you can go 128k with both channels, but then you get twice as much phone bill.

if my company werent paying for my isnd, i wouldnt bother with to be honest.

you pay more line rental, and the same call costs, for not much extra.

adsl will be much better most of the time.

you will get slow speeds at peak times, but for gaming etc, there will be no comparison to isdn.

Go with the Cable Modem if you can get NTL in your area.

Mate of mine had one, we get like sub 10Ms Ping times on U.T

ADSL will still probably take years to materialize in any usable form, current appliacations only work in a very limited radius from the exchange so it is unlikely and Suberbian / country dwellers will be able to use it for a llooooong time.

Cable modems are about 45 a month and about 50 quid installation from NTL. It is always on as well whivh saves on Dial up Times after those pesky server crashes.

heh :)

i should be going adsl pretty soon....

with adsl and cable modem though, make sure you know what protection software is in use, or can be used, or what the company recommend.

if you leave your pc turned on, then the internet can get to it 24/7

you need a decent firewall/proxy set up.

I work for a telecoms company and I have to be honest BT really missed the boat with ADSL cable modem is so much faster, I'm getting upto 750K connection.

Tooley - no question mate, ADSL. I've got the normal 512kb ADSL but on certain days of the week I am beta trialling the 2MB connection - simply bliss. I hear that they are about to start testing 7MB soon.

True that the service availability and quality varies grately which I'm sure will stay like that for some time but I'm happy cos I can download a 4 megabyte mp3 file in under 20 seconds ;-)

Tooley, have you chased up BT Openworld about it? I was eligible for ages but they didn't send confirmation. I then just called and asked what was happening and the following Thursday, I had it installed.
