Hi,

i see a few complaints about the Ultimate BB forum software.

Although it is the better of the two i installed to test, i admit, there are a few things that aren't quite right with it.

However, the reason we changed to this is because the Bravenet forum, which is hosted on Bravenet server, kept stopping, disappearing and taking too long to update (days in some cases).

The Ultimate forum software is installed on my own server, which is where the site is installed. I am not reliant on anyone else's services, except for the network service of my employer.

And if the server itself dies, then it is my problem, and i can fix it, rather than have to wait for a 3rd party to get their act together.

At the moment, i am busy writing the tools needed for us all to create and edit our own pages on this site, so that we can all contribute to the individual sections, all update our own rides pages, and all upload out own images to show (ok Nico).

This has taken a little longer than i anticipated (as all software projects do) but it is over 50% done, and i hope to have te rest done in the next couple of weeks.

Once the tools have been done, then the next thing on my agenda will be my own forum software.

I will want lots and lots of feedback from you people on what features you want and like from other forums, and what stuff can be left out.

However, it will be a little while before that happens.

If you all think we should go back to Bravenet service, i have no problem with that, and i'll move the link to the top of the list. If you can all grin and bear it for a couple of months, then great.

If you had been complaining about my own forum software, then that would have been a different matter.. ;)

Give us some feedback and let's see what the concensus is.

Craig, I hope my comment about the forum did not offend you, it was just a flippant comment. As usual I commented before thinking about why we had switched to this forum.

I think you and Nico do a great job on this site and the way it has developed is absolutely brilliant.

Keep up the good work.

Simon,

no offence taken at all mate. You have to try very hard if you want to offend me, or try to rip me off... Seriously though, I am open for any criticism like that.

But, all the explanations are in the posting.

I agree that this is not the best of software to use, but it is the best of a bad lot really... which is why i am writing some.

But, please don't let it discourage you from posting :)
