That's right. In the next couple of years, values are going to rise . GTO's will not. Supra's will not. RX7's might because of their drifting abilities. But our z values are going to climb. Let's face it, every man and his dog on this site is pissed off with z's being sold for peanuts, a car that Nissan threw everything at 16 odd years ago, and now is on autotrader for £1500 or less.

The Jap import market has gone crazy with modified motors. They are everywhere you look, even here in good old Ireland where 5 years ago the sight of a skyline would cause a stir. But here's the thing. Over the past year or so, simple comments made by people, from grannies to 6 year olds on my car are starting to make sense. It IS a car that makes people smile. Out of all the other jap cars from the last 10-15 years no other car has the presence of the 300zx z32. This website is proof of it. 18-75 year olds own them, drive them and recieve great fun and pleasure out of it. I don't think that will change in the next twenty years.

So anyone out there thinking they've bought a shed, think again. This car is here to stay, and will pay you back in kind for the money you spend. :)

I kinda agree. What I think increasingly will happen is that the hardcore few of very tidy original ones will become quite sought after. As much as there is a lot of shite about, seemingly mine is within that sector...at the moment. Not many actually come over from Japan.

The grey import market, is currently being flooded with top heavy MPVs, Imprezas, FTOs and Skylines.

For instance, we have a ship in on Tuesday with 200 grey imports on it. Not one of them is a Zed....as much as it was sad to see on the manifest, in hindsight, it's actually rather nice. I like the rarity factor the Zed has and really want that to stay.

I think you'll always be able to find good TT Manuals for around £5k-£6k and I don't think prices will go down much with respect to that. The tatty ones are being broken for spares now mainly and the rest seem to get getting lots of TLC as this forum proves.

lets hope so, as much as i hate i gaurantee as soon as that new bloody fast and furious comes out u watch, every damn kid will be out paying through the nose to get whatever cars there using for that, which is why im piss*d i sold my s13 as i bet the value for drift cars is gonna go through the roof. we shall see...

As Jezza Clarkson calls the 300...it's a Datsun mate...thank the lord that it was not in the Renault era. ;)

Fine and yeah you're right!

But listen in kiddy winkles...yer 300 ain't gonna go up in value...not in our life time anyway! Makes me laugh! Which is ace at this time of the morning.

Hopefully they will appreciate but probably not for a long time, not until there are only a handful left at least. Sadly with rising fuel costs and taxes in the UK the big petrol burners are paying the price.

Seems like genuine Saphire cossy’s have started to appreciate again now there are so few of them, also a cult car.

Different story over here but that’s due to the fact that domestic Z's are rare as fook and petrol is 30p a litre  . Because of the 15 year old age restrictions here imports have only just started arriving. I've noticed a drop in value since this happened but tidy Z's are still fetching about 8k. Shame it’s not that way in the UK, if the Imports had never come, Z’s would be worth more money (providing there was no rust) but then there would hardly be anyone on this forum, and that would suck!

Andy

i bought mine for £5k 3year ago, im the first british owner, it had odd wheels(18s front, 17s on the back) and was 3 shades of red, to be fair it was a bit tatty, ho and it had very little history but i just fell in love with it.

luckily so for its done me proud reliability wise.

ive spent about 5/6k on mods(mostly cosmetic) and i wonder what its worth now, most probably less than i originaly bought it for

scary to think you can buy one now for £1500 i bet most of them are sheds though.

I think i was pretty lucky with mine, it was just imported after the 60k service, had 105k on the clock but 5 of that was in miles not km, had been professionally converted by Dada Motorsport near leicester, all the fluids were clean as a whistle, there was and still is no rust and no signs of repairs apart from the obvious one on the back and the odd trolley dint but its performed flawlessly and only cost me £3000.

NOW, from a perspective of a person who's very picky about cars i would NEVER buy a car that's been even slightly modified even the tinting came out of mine last week.

The saleability the zeds faces are:

There's alot of imports which are expensive to insure (in my case 1500 quid most people wanted and the only reason i got it insured for 630 is i think I used the registration and the previous owner had lied and said it was a uk car, needless to say when renewel comes up i'm registering the air filter and the jap status)

Most of them are modified so the insurance is a nightmare to sort (pretty much every one i see has got an exhaust or air filter etc) and its a huge turn off for the average punter.

The first thought that goes through your head when you a maxed out 300zx is "s*** i bet that's been thrashed" compared to a standard one.

Nissan dealerships are hideously expensive to get parts from and unless you know about this forum and fleabay it might put you off (my wing mirror was ripped off and nissan wanted 500 + spraying and fitting so i ended up tracking a red one down and re casing it for just over 35 quid)

And the supra has more uk examples over here and tends to have more of a market presense as the jap super car, the 300 seems to be for the person who likes the supra idea but wants something more original and unique.

These are merely my opinions and most people will have a different view but as a joe public last year myself they're the things that put me off but:

the sound

the speed

the unique interior (who has seat belts on the doors, & all the buttons round the wheel! wow i thought!)

the exclusivity of owning one

have made me think its a worthwhile purchase and the friendlyness and helpfulness of the club has made it all the better.

I've pretty well fallen in love with my zed and the culture but i will try and keep it so that if and when i come to sell her all i have to do is whack the old airbox in, the exhaust back on and the wheels back on so it comes across as an original example rather than modify the crap out of her and do too much damage to her value.

All i know is that this is a car i can't sell after 6 months like i usually do and i get bored easily of cars :D

Now in terms of value, if you have an original zed, n/a or turbo and hold onto it in that state and look after it you'll probably slow depreciation but i wouldn't hold out for the value increasing. I think the market for the zed has to clean itself up and make itself more a grand tourer image rather than a max power image.

I think its down to the owners themselves to make more of a presence known on the roads and get people to stop saying, what is that and start saying wow i want one! :)
