Went to my martial arts club last night and did some light grappling to warm up. I was in a neck crank and it clicked my neck as I was holding on trying to get out. Quite nice at the time, but was sore after, but nothing too abnormal, just knew I'd have a sore neck in the morning.

Woke up this morning and was very sore, felt really nauseas and couldn't move my head. Stood up and went to get a drink of water and was feeling very bad, thinking about calling the ambulance because I was quite scared. Next thing I knew I was coming round on the bedroom floor feeling really f*cked. Called 999 and passed out on the phone to them again.

Ambulance came out and paramedic said it was a bad muscular injury in top of neck and that didn't think I needed hospital just rest and anti-inflammatory but would take me to hospital if I wanted. I said the missus would if I needed it later. So now wondering if I should go anyhow? :wack:

I would not bother bud if the hospital is like ours it would be fookin ages before your seen then they will probably just tell you to go home again as beds are limited and the food is shite.

If it is the Kent & Sussex hosp then you are totally right !!! Having said that probably best to get it checked over and maybe x-rayed

sounds a bit dodgy man!! you probably have a higher chance of recovery in bed than in hospital :D

jeez hope its ok mate :(

anti-inflamms are usually quite good - i had real bad neck cramp from sitting on a forklift truck and craning my neck for hours. whenever i moved my head it felt like someone was pushing an icicle down my spine. anti-inflamms sorted it out over the course of a few days. hope you get it sorted mate.

Rather safe than sorry bud, go get it checked out ASAP.

Mind, I thought you Army/Para boys were big and tough! :)

anti-inflammatory worked a treat for me.

give it a couple of days and see how it goes. if the same seek medical advice.

hope everything is ok.

Yeah, Royal Marine Commandos are even tougher, must have hurt myself becasuse I wasnt wearing my green beret  Civvy now though so wont be long before I'm fat and soft!

I always worry because I don't really react to much to pain so find it hard to judge if its bad or not. It freaked me out earlier when I kept passing out.

thanks for the comment guys

Gonna relax for a few hours and see how I feel. Havn't passed out since the ambulance was here though. Maybe the inflammation was doing something weird to nerves in my neck? Dave :wack:

Wow mate, keeping passing out is not good.

I'd be tempted to get it checked out.

If you go now, the wait shouldn't be too long - by this evening the hospital will be full till Sunday.

At my local hospital you can phone A&E and ask them how long the queue is roughly. Maybe worth a go.

go see an osteopath just to make sure too

as you might have moved things outta alignment

sounds like you have slightly damaged artery near the neck muscle mate .. as you are a martial artist like me you will be aware there the artery running along the neck that if pressure is applied to it and then released the sudden rush of blood can cause passing out , maybe its been crimped or slightly twisted in a spasm , go see a an osteopath at the least , dont stay alone until you feel recovered and the passing out stops ...if in any doubt get to the hospital ....you paid your NI its what they are there for

good luck fella

Steve

Oh my god Dave, something's not right there somewhere for you to pass out... I would def get it checked out even if you start feeling ok again... You don't wanna be passing out behind the wheel of your Z'ed now do ya????!!!! Hope all is good with you apart from that.... :hyper:

 Sorry to hear about this Dave. I would get it checked out to be safe mate, have a couple of days off (after the weekend of course ;) )

Get well soon buddy.

Take some anti-inflammatories, either tabs or gel as its absorbed quite well. Also take paracetamol in addition and take regular dosage as opposed to when you need it. You might get some odd tingling down your arms as you may have irritated some nerves in your cervical(neck) spine. If you are concerned or still having blackouts get it seen to as someone has wisely mentioned.

Thanks for the advice guys. I've been taking ibroprofen all day and havn't had any more black outs. I get very nauseas and would probably pass out when I bend my head backwards (opposite of the direction it was pulled yesterday). Maybe it inflammed something that is getting crushed when I bend my head back? anyhow going to see how it is in the morning. Probably going to get it checked by a docter if it doesn't change, but seems to be stable at any rate. I've been in positions where I thought I could die before and was scared but this morning truly terrified me, the couple of blackouts I had left me completely dis-orientated and thought I'd broken my neck or something. The paramedic from the ambulance made me feel a lot better after he had checked me over for spine/ bone damage. Dave :wack:

I would say go get it seen. I have put of getting my ankles checked for ages and now I think I will have problems the rest of my life. I like you was a martial artist, one of the last things I dne was fight in kickboxing heavyweight world championship, fought 6 fights in a row to reach the final and after removing my pads I could not stand anymore. I then trained and fought for 2 months after that and it just totally detiorated. Probably a problem from my footbal and rugby days carried on, but I had to stop for my own sake dispite the shape and condition I was in.

I would say go get it checked, dont end up like me and saying "I wish I did".

I mean all you can loose is some wasted time if going to the hospital isnt worth it. But if you do need attention then you will be glad 10 times over you went.

Been in the hospital for most of the day. They were good actually, hardly had to wait at all. They did lots of x-rays , apparently I've hyperextended my neck in a similar way to whiplash. And the nausea is due to my body not being able to balance right due to the neck damage, kind of like sea sickness (which I suffer from quite bad). Also the passing out is probably from bruised blood vessels or the muscle going in to spasm and cutting off/restricting blood to the back of my brain for a moment. I have to go to a neurologist to check that out furthur this week, but it should hopefully just be a confirmation that everything is ok and that I just need to recover. I'm glad you guys and the missus talked me into going! It feels good to have an expert opinion. Just have to put up with resting/bedridden now, I can't stand wasting time.
