Hi guys,

Every time I start my car up from cold (or even warn sometimes), I get this horrendious noise from around the belt/pullies. Ihave tried listening to the source but the noise is too much to actually depict which of the belt accessorries is making the noise.

Plus I have tried to adjust the belts but to no avail. the thing is they are all new belts!

So Im wondering - could this be fan clutch failling or my water pump dying? I have heard from some where that fan clutch do make noise when failling.

Could someone please confirm this or am I mistaken.

Help please.

thanks

If it's any help - my water pump failed without any noise...

Good luck

could be the fan clutch yes,if your sure you have checked belt tension correctly

then try a viscous clutch :duffer:

Thanks, i will replace the fan clutch and see.

Could also be one of the idle / tensioner pulleys on your cam belt. . . when the belt was last changed were these done, I has the same problem with my skyline, would screech every start up for a few seconds. When I got round to checking one of the idle pulleys was fooked, you could hear the bearings rattling about inside

Could also be the a/c pump.

a/c pump generally sounds like a grating bearing noise

should be easy to tell if its the AC pump, its dissengaged until u turn it on.

when u turn on it will use a different bearing to the idle bearing in the pulley

a/c pump generally sounds like a grating bearing noise

Mine didn't sound bad but was very stiff to turn, hence belt slipped and squealed.

My idler pulley bearing has gone , it sounded like a metallic , high pitch rattle if that helps any :)
