Hi All.

oh s**t ,went past a plain cop car with a night time lazer last night at

112mph ,lucky it wasnt 2 miles earlier but anyway,I,m nicked, when pc bad attitude had finished his hypocritical little lecture he informs me I,m not getting a fixed penalty but am going to court and will get banned.

In my defence I showed him my speedo has just bust,it was a totaly empty

dual carrageway at 12.30 at night and if I loose my licence as a hgv driver

I will loose my job,did it help,NO.

What do you think licence lost or not, with a brief and lots of pleading?

I may have been doing 99.96 if me speedo had been working,it was a lazer I couldnt deny it,they even took it up the road to test the speedo and had to agree the car is in a1 condition then said they were doing me for a defective speedo as well oooooo

But you can't expect to just get away with things if you're pulled over for doing 100mph+

We are too ready to moan for a police officer doing their job and when they let you off they are great (not doing their job) yet if you went to a garage and they DIDN'T (ie not doing their job) fix your car you would be fuming?

At the end of the day the police officer has done nothing wrong by sending you to court, YOU were the one seriously exceeding the speed limit. Even more so if a police officer lets you off then that is a form of corruption and they should be disciplined and who wants a corrupt police service?

Got to agree, if you were speeding and hurt someone we would all moan if the police let you off, here you got caught so they do their job you pay the penalty simple as really. Ive been caught doing much more than that, I took it on the chin cos I knew the risks before I did it.

true but the question must be asked does a person deserve to loose his job mabye his house etc etc for a speeding offence ok large fine but not 17k a year !

probably not deserve it but thats the law, if it was that important to you then you would stay below 100 no matter what.

No one wants a corrupt police service, we already have one.

When a cop gets off for doing 139, then it creates a divide and people get peeved.

Anything over 97 and you have to go to court, the cop cannot give you a ticket...

If you had been doing 95 on an empty road, then I would have said he could have given you a warning...but hey, good luck anyway dude.

I am not a believer that speed kills,,,bad driving, drink driving and women kill. Speed on it's own does not kill.....

one rule for the public.......

12 Months in Prison and a 3 year ban for 160mph! - March 8 2002

Last year a biker was stopped in Wales for speeding and the police discovered an on board video camera.

When they played the tape it showed him riding at upto an indicated 160mph

The rider - Wayne Soman, 32, was prosecuted on the strength of this video and today was sent to prison for 12 months and also given a 3 year ban and ordered to retake his test.

Chief Inspector Ian Miles, of Dyfed Powys Police said: "Clearly the judge in this case recognised the serious danger to the innocent public by an individual who posed a serious threat to them by his careless and irresponsible driving."

No accident occured and no injury occured - yet the rider was sent to prison for a year.

and another for the police......

I was testing the car, says Pc clocked at 159mph

By Becky Barrow

(Filed: 20/04/2005)

A policeman accused of driving at up to 159mph said yesterday that he had simply been trying to "familiarise" himself with the new car.

Pc Mark Milton, 38, told magistrates in Ludlow, Shropshire, that he had taken out the new, unmarked 3.2 litre GSI Vauxhall Vectra to assess its capabilities.

Milton, who qualified as a Grade I advanced driver in 1995, said he had never driven the model before taking it out on patrol early on Dec 5, 2003. He denies a charge of dangerous driving and five separate speeding charges.

Milton, from Bratton, Telford, said: "I had taken the opportunity to familiarise myself with that vehicle. At no time did I consider that anybody would be at jeopardy given that, even on advanced courses whilst still a student under instruction, I was being encouraged to drive at speeds greater than 145mph on motorways."

need I say more guys...........

You know the risk when you do it.

Yes we all do it at times, and i have no right to cry if /when caught.

Simple as that really, i feel for the guy, but if its his job at stake, then dont speed. more so on a 60mph

We all know the risks, would you go to a casino and bet more than you could afford? I would hope not.

again true but why not take away his car license but leave his hgv alone (difficult to speed in hgv:)? sry this is getting away from the point.feel a new thread coming on :)

That's a very good suggestion, not like he is going to achieve those sort of speeds in a HGV!

I totaly understand the plod was just doing his job,ok hands up I,m guilty and dont at all think I should get off ,allthough it would be quite handy, what bugs me a bit is the fact that over 300 police officers were caught speeding in north wales last year and how many got convicted,14,and the officer who got of a 164mph conviction and the nwp t5s that speed across anglesey in traffic a lot faster than I was going with no lights or sirens in the day for no reason (so Ive been told)

I often think that if I had one of the cameras they have in there cars in my truck I could in 12 months make a video that would put pca to shame and they would be the stars.14 out of 300ish ,corruption of course not.

Not my words the words of jeremy vine of radio 2 whilst interviewing brunstrom of the nwp.

yep, there is definitely a divide between us and them. One rule for us and one for them etc.

I was always taught to lead by example, how can you respect a copper that speeds and gets off???...

As has been said before, its sad that you might lose your Job as a result of the ban and I hope it works out for you

but

"rant mode on"

we all know the rules, I'm sure that every one of us breaks them at times, but we know the rules, and as much as we like to protest, it was our choice to break them.

On a similar note, it makes me laugh when we complain about how the government spends the money that it gets from speed camera's. We have no right to complain, the money was not donated (to get a peerage...), its our punishment for breaking the rules, we have no right to decide how its spent.

"Rant mode off"

But when they dedicate such a % of the police force to catching speeders because the revenue gets pumped back to the force, we have a right to complain because it means real criminals are not getting caught.....

If it is not revenue building, then don't expect the cops to respond.....

anyone up for starting the uk 300zx political party LOL :) :)

Sorry to hear that m8!....hope everything works out to be in your favour!!!

I reported on a magistrates court for a year.

Over 100 is an automatic ban UNLESS you have a good reason to keep your licence - ie, your job depends on it.

Near the trial, advertise the car for sale and tell the magistrates you've realised what a terrible mistake you made and you've changed and would never speed and you're glad you got a wake up call like this rather than having an accident etc etc etc.

Dress conservatively but not flashy in court.

Fingers crossed for you mate!

hey dude----get a life :p

im not the only one who thinks that then :duffer:

We are too ready to moan for a police officer doing their job and when they let you off they are great (not doing their job) yet if you went to a garage and they DIDN'T (ie not doing their job) fix your car you would be fuming?

i spose a similar senario would be you pay a garage to fit a set of 360thrust bearing turbos and you get at best a 2nd hand set that leak oil :smash:

Ok thanks for that craig I could start practising my lying now, must be worth a try.

I got pulled over by a car with 2 officers on the M6 toll in and they claimed they followed me for 2 miles and that I was doing 100 mph. They didn't have any photo evidence and just tried to bluster me into taking 3 points.

They ddn't follow me for 2 miles and I wasn't doing a 100 and their statement makes me look really bad, completely misquoting me.

What can i do though? they have no evidence but their statements back each other up, but they are lying. Now best i can do i have the 3 points.

Nothing against police in general, but ive got 2 copper mates and they didn't do it to "fight justice" or "help people", they did it cos they weren't qualified for anything else and its pretty good money. Now theyre more reliable and trustworthy than me. *****x.

Bl00dy hell, got well in the zone there!!! Need to have a lie down now.

But when they dedicate such a % of the police force to catching speeders because the revenue gets pumped back to the force, we have a right to complain because it means real criminals are not getting caught.....

If it is not revenue building, then don't expect the cops to respond.....

The police have a responsibility to police the roads, a lot of "real criminals" drive cars and use them to help commit crimes. Does it not make sense that the police use a % of their resources to police this.

Using the money gained from speeding fines to fund traffic cops makes sense, that way its not a drain on the funding they get from the government and there will be more Police available to catch real criminals.

without fail a ban, likely to have a resit test too as the speed is well over 100mph and on a 60,mph road too.

sorry mate, your looking at a minimum 1 yr ban too with a great possibility of longer

It may well be academic as he was exceeding 100mph but the limit on a dual carriageway is 70 not 60 mate..........

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
