as per the subject really, its an 04 m3 i was in and it felt really fast, faster than my zed, but the owner said it had 343bhp from the book so i am reading that as flywheel. My zed shouold be around that bhp to be honest so weight aside, why doesnt it feel as fast (talking really the acceleration not top speed...)

Any ideas on what i can do cheaply to get it faster? (ive got a profec so going to be tweaking it to get the full boost quicker so more of a kick...) Or am i dreaming in hoping to get m3 type performance from a stage 1 / 2 zed?

Maybe you should rephrase that !!! lol :x:

all the new M3s that ran when i went to the pod were slower than me, mods list in rides section.

maybe i just need to spend the time sorting my profec setup out then... its an 04 m3 so new and fast... just the acceleration in 2nd 3rd was brutal.... i am in an auto zed though and my profec needs tweaking as it takes a while to hit full boost...

The M3 is a race tuned engine with NO turbo's, there for hence NO lag!! I believe its got a 6 speed manual/SMG box aswell, so no waiting on turbo's, Line presuure etc.

Although, every M3 ive raced, I totally wasted them :D am im in an Automatic Z aswell

The E46 M3 is a fast car. That 343bhp might be a rear wheel figure - I don't know.

I'd have thought it'll wipe the floor with a standard Zed.

Book 0 - 60 time for a 2004 M3 (is that the E46?) is 4.9 seconds, whereas for the TT zed it's 5.2 - 5.6 seconds depending on which model you have (SWB/LWB), so unfortunately the stock M3 *is* a faster car than the zed. Doesn't look as good though, and you can always get yourself a boost controller, and ECU upgrade for an awful lot less than buying a second hand M3 if you're that bothered.

That said... I beat the only newish M3 that tried to race me (think it was an 04 plate), so 0 - 60 times aren't everything, but like chunk says, they've got a very impressive spec.

i got beat by a new one a week ago, i was quicker than him on the straight, but unlike me he could drive and was so much quicker out of the corners.

everyone elses car feels faster when your in the passenger seat..trade places and you drive the m3..might not feel as fast then, how many times have you taken someone new in your car and their like ' wow, thats fast' and to you it felt like nothing!

you've got a point there, its true you don't "feel" the cars accelaration like the passenger does because you are bracing yourself without even knowing it when your driving and the passenger is not......

go and drive the M3 then get into yours, see if you feel the difference ?

Agreed!!! My ZX is really Fooking quick but when my mechanic who races and prepares rally cars does mods to mine then takes me out for a spin in it to show me the power increases I get scared absoulutly 5hitless in my own car!!! Didn't know my Z could corner that fast and drift just as good, mind you this bloke can drive really bloody well!! :hyper:

That is a very good point. I quite literally nearly crapped my pants when I let my best mate drive my zed: I wasn't at all worried about the car -- I mean if the worst comes to the worst it's just a car and you can get another one -- no, I was just certain we were going to die.

cheers guys, hopefully when i get my profec set up correctly should make my zed a bit more brutal on acceleration... i guess its the setgain thingy to increase the spool up... have to go read the instructions again...

I think we should also consider that the zed is a long legged grand tourer GT car designed in the 80's when 0-60 was important but secondary to endless motorway mile munching. Think of its perceived competitors when it was designed. (porsche 944). Modern design ethos is way different. No longer do they think we are cruising at treble figures to the south of france to the casino.

M3's are fast but my mild-tuned zed eats them regular so I think when it comes to power figures BMW always seem to print the legend rather than the facts.

IMHO
