gotta question about maximum revs, im pretty paranoid about revving the car too hard, what i mean is if im thrashing it i normally change up at 7000rpm, never after. my mates always saying u should push it all the way to 9000rpm, but im always a bit cautious. whats the truth does it actually do any damage/excess wear to the engine going into the redline? or what about hitting the limiter? as ive never wanted to try. need some advice so one of us can be right! cheers

the limiter is at 7000 so you wont be revving any higher than that. Peak power comes at 6400 so shifting at 7k is not unreasonable. Do yourself a favour though and never listen to your mates advice on cars ;)

cheers mate, thought so! hes written off more cars than i can remember! but i always get the "ive been driving longer than u" shite!

TT or NA ? NA needs the higher rpms to get the best out of it, the TT does'nt need to be revved so hard.

Although 7000rpm is plenty for both....stock limiter is 7200rpm I think.

You may have noticed the upper end of your rev counter is red in colour. Going into this for anything other than a brief moment is very bad - that's why it is red and the hand book tells you not to do it "....otherwise engine damage may occur....."

Sorry for the sarcasm but your mate either drives a Honda V-tec or is full of shite :slap:

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

oh dont worry i totally agree! like i said i never listen to him anyway, just wanted that backed up by a few people!

Yeah, he's talking crap... and in any case, you'll hit the limiter, which might be at 7200 as Legrath says, but I actually have a suspicion that it may be as low as 6800 rpm. Then again, maybe someone who knows a bit more should comment on this. At any rate 9000 rpm = very bad indeed -- I don't think even Mac's car rev's this high (isn't his red line around 8.5k or something like that) and he's spent a truckload of cash on it.
