thinking about doing this myself (well getting my dad to do it) what problems will i have? do i split the engine and leave the gearbox? its a manual engine going into an auto. I imagine the flywheel will be different and the torque convertor will have to be swapped over

bump

Graham, the torque converter becomes the flywheel in an auto so the existing flywheel will need to be remove. Two other differences you will have to cope, the first is the bolts for the torque converter mounting plate are shorter on an auto, so don't mix them up, and the second problem is the spigott bush that fits in the end of the crankshaft, The auto one is larger than the manual. You may be able to swap but you usually damage them getting out, so best but new before you start. By the way, you shoul leave the torque converter with the gearbox in the car, and just disconnect the mounting plate from it, 3 bolts I think from memory. You will also need some sort of lifting plate to fix on top the engine to enable easy manouvering when its going in. Good luck mate.

cheers for that old zed, most helpful. anyone else want to offer their pearls of wisdom

Graham, a word of warning...them Zed engines are no lightweights. Make sure you have agood crane / lifter with long feet to counterbalance the weight. My son change his in a weekend, without prior knowledge of what was involved.
