Just done an Ecu test and it comes up with Code 34 (Det sensor).

I had a Profec fitted some time ago and never really noticed any issues. The car seems to boost ok but will need to check. What are my options? I don't really want to have to have the engine out...

A boost controller like the Profec prevents the car going into safety boost, but it will be in safety mode, which means retarded timing which will be affecting performance.

Its either engine out or plenum off and replace det sensor.

or

Det sensor bypass

thats why your getting AFR/emmission probs probs, its caused it to run mental rich and retard the timing.

its not likely to do with the Profec, itl be that the det sensor is totally goosed or the harness is broken, just bypass it for the mot then fix it later but its a plenum off job.

so you have a boost controller fitted,so the solenoids have been disconected, and your getting full boost not safety?

id get a consult as this could be an old code, from so many starts ago,and no its not engine out you can bypass the plug, only downside is you cant hear det,but its a 2min fix-do a search

to replace the loom then its a fair job,but not engine out ;)

unless its got an aftermarket chip!

some chips dont have retarded ignition maps for safety mode! (JWT dont IIRC)

in which case the det sensor is completely useless anyway!!!

How do I then reset so that I am not picking up old codes? The profec tells me I am still hitting 15psi...so I am confused...

Anyone got a link to the det sensor bypass until I can get it replaced?

you can enter diag mode by using the shorted wire method and then shorting the terminals out again to clear it (exiting diag mode).

you will still be getting 15psi, because the std solenoid is bypassed, there for if its got a standard chip or one with a det map, then it will change the timing and fueling maps, but will not be able to reduce the boost.

I do have a JWT chip if that helps...still confused...

In that case....the det sensor is not in use and its failing is having no affect on the car.

So are we saying that because I have a JWT chip the det sensor is not used? So will my engine be detting? I have not heard it det.

I reckon I still get full boost but am I doing harm?

yup!

id recommend all that have a boost controller to get a knock link as this would be the only way of knowing your car is detting!!

well, until you strip the engine & find a hole in your piston LOL!

no, it means the ECU is unable to do anything about it if it does detect det!

By "no effect" you mean it is not going into safety boost? SO I could be doing bad things to my engine?

What is a knock link?

Sorry for all these questions guys, so would say swapping my chip for a MINES then bring the det sensor back into use?

thats right. EBC's bypass the boost solenoids on the car so you cant get safety boost. & the chip doesnt have alternative ignition maps so the ignition stays the same also! so the ECU knows the car is detting (assuming you had a working det sensor! ;) ) but is unable to do anything about it!!

a knock link is a display that you fit in the car that gives a visual indication of det.

its not going into safety boost because there is no settings for safety boost,

if there was then it would be in it just now because there is a fault with the det sensor.

even if you had no error code, the det sensor was working properly and you got genuine detting, the ecu wouldnt do anything about it and you would continuse to destroy your engine.

so yes, you could be doing bad things to your engine, but whether you have a working det sensor or not, it wouldnt help.

consider your det sensor as useless whether its working or not.

SO worth bypassing the det sensor then?

So it is soon to be plenum off time then to have it replaced...

no because weve just disussed how the std det sensor is redundant anyway due to your JWT chip not having a knock map

Did we not agree that a MINES chip would be a good idea also as that would bring it back into play as it has the map?

SO if I get the new chip and the det sensor replaced, I should be in a better position and my engine in a happier place?

dunno, you would need to see if the safety map is any different!

you would still not get safety boost which is far more important than a couple of degrees of ignition retard.

I have now got what I believe to be the standard ecu in and it shows Code 34 but I still get full boost...in fact I got to 15 psi easily...

More worrying is that once when I floored it, I lost all power, everything, the car slowed and then it came back...ekkk,,,,whats up with it...???
