Hi all.

Just noticed yesterday that my heating isnt really hot, had it at 40 on auto, (doesnt come out of the centre vents or door vents) had to put my hand over the door window demister vents and feels warm but not hot, surely set at 40 it should feel hot, not just warm?

oh and the car was at full temp..

any ideas? thanks

How long you had the car?

Because the Z has climate control the incroments are in degrees centigrade and 40C is hot. So if the central vents don't work I'd say you dash has been out and some of the ducting dumped. Which is comon with these cars. However in the lower duct O/S (just above the steering columb under dash) there is a thermo probe. if this duct is missing, prob not connected or connected but not in the duct and pushed back near the matrix you heater will either be on full or reading the matrix temp instead of the air temp going into the car.

not long had the car, (im first uk owner) dont know if the dash has been out to be honest, but i dont think so..ill check what you suggested - its going for a coolant flush/replacement today so maybe that may fix something?

may be worth dropping temp to 22 degs to see if warm air comes out vents then.

My wifes zed had same problem - down to missing thermostat.

it does! must be same problem...missing thermo? same thermostat as in the engine thermostat? (dumb question maybe!)

as mark says it could be to do with the ducting!

could be a slight airlock causing very little water to enter the matrix,so try your rad flush and replace coolant, and make sure the car is up to temp, and heat is entering the cabin area

also the series 1 heater controls are pants, you want heat out of the front vents but unlike the series 2 controls where you can control where the heat is,it normally has a mind of its own,and comes out from the demister only

I sometimes get the vents in the centre console working and sometimes they do not - If I throw it around a corner you can year something fall into place and then they start to work. Other times it works fine, but the annoying rattle in the dash is definately the bit that moves around and controls the airflow into the vents.

The heat will only blow out of the footwell vents (and a little out of window vents) when you set it to a high setting. This is becuase its trying to warm the inside of the car up and the quickest way to do that is to blow heat from the lowest point, as heat rises.

Once temperate reaches that point it will start blowing out of all the vents, including centre vents to keep the cabin at that consant temp.

that sounds like the spring that controls water flow, which is attached to the matrix, what tends to happen is when the matrix has been replaced-if it has been replaced,is the small control arm which passes through a butterfly type flap has been bent, and when the controls ask for heat the spring cannot open the flap to its most open point,so if you hit a corner flatout or hit a bump it then opens the flow to full

greg was series 2 jap spec  with nice fany controls

well took my car into Zedworld today, and they've called me to say i had a water leak too , so maybe thats a factor too..getting it fixed also so maybe that will clear it up, as well as te coolant flush/change..

That will definatly effect your heating, and it is probably causing an airlock-preventing water to enter the matrix properly :)
