yes its another idle question.....(and i have used the search as well before asking this question)

My Zed keeps running at 1000 in park (with air-con,heater etc off).

Ive cleaned the temp sensor plug that was gunky reset the ECU and since then its idles cold at normal revs, then by the time temp guage reads quater of the way round it reads about 750-800 revs.Great i think! But by the car is back up to normal temp it runs at 1000 again.Ive cleaned the TPS connectors as well.

Would this problem indicate the Temp sensor is at fault because it reads 750-800 with the needle a quater round?

1000 rpm isn't that far out of spec between 7-900 is fine! so unless it really bothers you, then you could so a general cleanup of throttle bodies, and general engine connections/earth etc, after cleaning the throttle bodies, your idle may be slightly higher due to the ecu learning the new properties so reset ecu afterwards

or ajust the idle via the ajustment screw on the side of the IAA

do a search for base idle ajustment

i was told by a nissan mechanic that 1000 revs was the norm for tickover because the engines are so highly strung.

When I reset my ECU it normally runs a little fast for the first few days while the self learning takes place, just like greg said.

no, 750-850rpm is correct, and these engine are not highly strung at all, quite the opposite in stock form.

99%* of Nissan mechanics have never touched a 300zx, only a handfull were trained on them back in the early 90's , and thats only basic training, and most of them no longer work for nissan.

*an unscientific estimate. I accept no reponsibility for accuracy.
