My car thinks it's Smokey Robinson again! FFS!

Stopped at the garage to get some cigs tonight almost home, put it in N and left it ticking over! Came out and noticed smoke coming from underneath. Same problem I had a while back.

Got home and grabbed the maglite, looked underneath and I could see where fluid had marked the zorst to just passed the centre.

It's not done this since having the gearbox done until now. Few thousand miles! However, I've still got serious vibration problems in the drivetrain, more than likely the prop. Is it possible that driving the car like this has knackered the rear seal on the gearbox again?

I'm gonna get it up on the ramps tomorrow and get my sorry ass underneath to see what I can see! FUCKING Z's!!!

Yeah I know what you mean matey, it's running like a dream but this is just that sorta small, niggly problem that could potentially cost me another gearbox build unless I nip it now!

Timmy,

Sorry to hear about your Z having problems again so soon. I'm glad you've caught it early. Hopefully tomorrow you'll be able to easily fix the prob. Good luvk m8. I've got my fingers crossed for you.

Laterz,

Van

Need to know whether it's gearbox or engine oil. If the PCV valves are blocked then the crankcase pressure could be blowing oil past the rear crank seal.

If it's gearbox then your mates in Watford will be helping you out. What is the warranty period ?

PCV valves Mr. P??? How the hell do I check them?? Trip to TT.net methinks!

Both AIV valves are gurgling now aswell! Fucks sake, why do they put these useless bloody things on in the first place??? Emissions I hear you cry! mad.gif

That would make complete sense matey! You're a genius!

My oil pressure has been a tad erratic over the past few weeks and to be honest I just put it down to the gauge. However, recently at high speed the needle has been nearly off the scale! WTF?

Too much pressure I reckon!

Well enough to be pissing oil out, but oil level is bang on??? Same with ATF???

Don't think crankcase pressure would affect oil pressure, but it could be that the pressure relief valve, which must be somewhere near the oil pump is stuck closed. I guess that Zed motors have these, most cars do, basically they keep the pressure with certain limits. I'll need to check the manual ....

Hmm, yeah. Have a look at LC-4,5,6,7, There are regulator and relief valves. If the relief valve were stuck it could cause high oil pressure at higher revs. But before you start panicing, you need to establish what is leaking ....

Cheers me old matey, will get underneath on Sunday and have a gander!

Gonna change the oil aswell as it is getting a tad dirty.

Andy, wanna get down to SE on Friday or Saturday mate. Will ring them tomorrow and see what they can do. You up for coming down???

Need to get this Auto gearbox cooler on asap and maybe they can diagnose this nastey problem if I can't make any headway over the weekend! wink.gif

OK, I can make one of those days. If it turns out to be Saturday you might as well stay at mine and we'll go for a beer.

It's burning oil on the zorst which after having a look today when I got to Chester, is dripping from the sump!

Also had a nice little puddle on the drive when we left this afternoon.

Hoping it's just a sump gaskett! Will have a closer look tomorrow. Rang SE but they can't get me in until 8th March...busy bees!!! wink.gif

Timmy - I thought SE had just done a rebuild on your engine??? If so and it is leaking oil, then unless you did the damage doing your Colin McRae impression the other week, then it is their responsibility to sort it - and fast wink.gif March 8th FFS??? How much money do you need to spend with these guyZ before they treat you like a customer should be??? frown.gif

CheerZ,

Andy

Andy me favourite zorst specialist,

Car was doing this from the day I had it, however it stopped after SE and to be fair didn't start again until after the gearbox rebuild.

I think Mr. P may have hit the nail on the head with this oil pressure relief valve jobby. Or possibly PCV's??? But I had a gander and could see oil dripping from the sump this afternoon at Chester when we shut it off! Not too worried now I can see where it's coming from.

Oil pressure gauge has been giving me dipsi-la-la Po figures for the past few weeks.

Let me get it up on ramps tomorrow and see what the score is.

Timmy,

Now yours is an Auto and since in know dick about them i will assume they use the same Differential / trans cooler as the Manual.

It sounds like the pipes going to and from the Tranny that complete a loop to the Differential and oil cooler at the back of the car could be leaking if as indeed you said your bleeding far down the exhaust.

when the Rear seal goes you generally can see large oil stains at the back of the engine before the bell housing.

If your car is set up similar to mine that is what i would suspect first - should be easy to fix if that is the case and these lines can be damaged if you allow them to get to near the exhuast.
