Hi fellas, I recently bought replacement Injector connectors from MJP to replace the split/cracked/non-existant ones on the car. My question is: has anyone done this before and did you crimp or solder the wires?

Cheers, Mark

Okay, okay I get the message!!! LOL. I was only concerned 'cos of the heat generated in the Z's engine bay. I thought it might get hot enough to melt the solder

i used crimped wires on a hks afr, and i was getting dodgy readings to the ecu side, took the crimps off and soldered it in, worked perfect. definitely solder.

Actually sometimes I do both. Normal solder melts at something like 180 deg C I think, so no need to worry about that.

I just twist the wires together and put some tape (whatever's to hand - sometimes Selotape) round it. I've done that for thirty years and never had a single problem.

People would realise I'm joking (I hope!)

i remember my mate telling an apprentice that he had to cut a big cross in the rear carpet of an estate car to get to the fuel tank sender unit. 2 mins later he comes back to him & said "done it, but still cant see how to get to it" :wack: :wack: :wack:

PMSL - fair point though!

How do you solder two seperate wires together.

Can you crimp and run solder into the connector?

twist the wires together inline, then run the solder in.

Put the wires together straight then heat the wires not the solder. then melt the solder onto the wire not the solderer. Otherwise the solder wont take to the wire properly.

make sure you cut back as far into the loom as the leads on the new plugs will let you,ie if the new plugs ahve a 6" lead .. cut back 5" on the original loom.. dont cut the full 6" as you'll lose an inch on the joint, this will help, as u generaly find at the end of an old wiring loom the cable can be slightly off coloured/ corroded and make sure you slide the heatshrink on before you solder and if there is corrosion on the cable .. use some electricians flux, availabe from somewhere like Maplins. not plumbing flux as it can badly corrode cables after a short time
