I am a mechanic to trade and used a Snap on 1/2 drive air gun (forgot part number) which could loosen wheel nuts on trucks without a problem ( torqued at 625 Nm) but it was a nightmare when tightening things as it broke quite a few bolts easily. I now have a similar gun as you have posted above and find it good for saving time etc and I think it would be of use to you. Much better than an air ratchet that caws the hand off you when it tightens bolts up and they get to tight and you keeep the air on.

Just my 2p's worth.

Cheers John,

What PSI compressor do you have? That gun goes up to 90 psi.

Air Ratchets ? OOoohhh !!!

Why do they always seem to jam your fingers between the off handle and the chassis somewhere ?? :smash: :smash:

Snap-on do a cordless one now that would be more than capable than handling the everyday jobs on a Zed.

This is not Snap-on, but you get the idea ! :)

Hmmm - looks pretty good! - Up to 160 lb /ft and no compressor to buy.

Hmmmm.

Obviously there are better ones than that on the market, it all depends on how often you are going to use it I suppose. Might not be any good for a mechanic doing 40 hours a week, but it should be ok for a weekend job at 4 hours or so. Spare battery as well, always ready to go.

Just a thought mate. Must be honest and say that I have never tried one, but maybe get a demmo at your local B&Q or Machine Mart store may be helpfull ?? No annoying airlines to drag all over your wings etc.

Indeed - just been looking around and you can get a 24v Makita for 475 quid!

Just wonder about some of max torque claims for the cheaper ones:

Wonder if that max is only for 0.2 of a second before it blows up. A bit like cheapo Hi-fi saying 400 W (PMPO max power and smells of burning).

Still - not a huge amount of money to risk.

Yeah - but I'd buy a boost controller and chip for that much money!

The electric guns are good, I havent used one but i know a few guys who have and would recomend one. As Alan says not an every day tool but handy for the weekends or even when on call out for speed when doing roadside/on site repairs.

Lets be honest there aint gonna be many jobs where a high torque is required on a zed, if you go higher torque there is always the chance of breaking bolts.....very easy done when you have a powerful gun even when its turned down.

LOL ! :) Methinks, its back to Ebay then ?

Good luck in whatever your choice mate.

Co-incidentally, I know somebody that used that guy from Ebay, and was well pleased with his purchase.

Just my twopence worth but it's the CFM that a pain with air ratchets. Just a point never try to take anything to bit's you wana use again unless it's wheel nuts..

I have just bought that exact one from Machine Mart

Seems good to me ;)

PLus that one recommended by our very on mechanical god

MantaV8, so it must be good :D

If you can wait a little while, I might be able to sort out some deals on this sort of thing. I'll hopefully know in the next couple of days :)
