some people change the innner rear lights to fogs. I need to do this myself but don't know how...lol

Uk cars have them built into the rear bumper 2 of them dont look that nice .Mine has been converted by importers into the drivers side reverse lights with a red bulb and round illuminated rocker switch near hand brake .1 blulb lights up both of the lights still look orange/pink had mot last week and they didnt even test them or the emissions. :duffer: :duffer: :duffer:

I think because the lights are dual filament, you can convert one set to fogs. Redline were gonna do mine as it failed MOT for this reason. I will be taking it there soon>....unless someone else knows how to do it, I believe it needs a diode...

IMO it looks better if you convert the inner rear lights and leave the reverse lights intact...but just my opinion...

The rear of the car would be helpfull.

I saw a J Spec today with reversing lights converted to show white on nearside and red fog on offside. IMHO looks awful. Maybe you could rewire the high level centre spoiler brake light into a fog light?

You may be right, not 100% sure on location requirements for compliance with the law.

ok ill check with a mot garage if its ok for the third brake light then ill go with that if not once again it will be bye bye drivers side reverse light thanks for the advise guys

;)

Mine uses the inner four brake light bulbs. Works well.

I'd be reluctant to lose a reversing light but mainly as my rear windscreen is tinted.

100% agree. Inner Brake light bulbs is best. Reversing is bad enough without not being able to see behind at night when reversing !

Thats what I was trying to say... :smash:

the MOT simply states it must be fitted to the centre or offside of the vehicle.

Did the same with mine, took off after passed MOT.

Instructions for fitting lamp read..........

" Position at or near the rear at a minimum height of 250mm from the ground.

And a maximum height of 1000mm from the ground.

Position on the centre line or offside (drivers side) no closer than 100mm to the rear brake light of the vehicle.

An illuminated switch or warning lamp should be fitted "

Thanks for posting my old Docs up :) all that work took ages to compile.

Legally, and in short, PaulC is very much correct. All the legal requirements are linked from the documents straight to the goverment web site.

As for those that put them on for the MOT, and then take them off again, what happeneds if, while you're driving, you suddenley come across a thick patch of fog? You'd soon be on here moaning when someone smacks you up the rear end (if you survive!!) Also it's still a legal requirement to have a working fog lamp all year round! If you get pulled, you'll get a fine (not sure about points though)

As for the high level third brake lamp mod, it's perfectly legal, but only if permanatly converted, the switchable version may fall foul of the legal requirements ;)
