Hi

As she is off the road for a month or so for improvments, I have decided to do some rust protection. All the interior panels are off so I thought it right to treat her to a good coat of interior waxoyling :)

On my other car, I paid a professional guy 300 pound to do this, so I thought I would give it a crack myself this time as I would rather put that money into a new set of rear lights

Have any of you guys done this to your Zeds?? If so, is there any pitfalls or places I need to concentrate on??? I was also gutted to find that my boot has been leaking from the drivers side rear light of all places   It has rusted quite bad and left a puddle under the tool kit?? Has Anyone come accross this leak spot before?? Someone has attempted to fix it, but done a crap job. I will tackle this also.

Does anyone know of a professional who could underseal her in the North-East, although I do not mind traverling to get a good job done.

Many Thanks for taking the time to read and any help offered will be repayed in beer sometime :duffer: :duffer:

Many Thanks

Waxoils great stuff. Thin it down with white spirit and spray it on using a cheap paint spray gun/kit. Best to do it each summer so that it stays fluid longer so that it can soak into the crevices better. Tiger Seal is what you need for the rear lights. It's about £8 a tube from an auto paint supplier. Remove lights, apply liberally and re-fit lights. No more puddles.

Good luck

You can get Waxoil in aerosols if you,re gonna do it yourself , any bodyshop will have undersealing guns , should,nt cost too much to have it done .

Might be worth while checking your car over underneath before undersealing to check on the brake and fuel lines for corrosion cos they,ll probably get covered and mask any potential problems .HTH :D

As Jack said above, did mine with clear waxoil... Used a little bit of Fast thinners in mine just to stop the spray gun from clogging but makes the job 50x easier!!!! If you got a uk TT just avoid spraying the diff cooler and the alarm if situated at the back of the car... Don't spray any engine bit's either especially tubs, once they get warm you'll be able to smell the waxoil cooking!!!

As my ZX is lowered its been recomended to me that i waxoil the underside once a year. When i drive it i can here the debris hit it it all the time so i think i will get it protected.

Anyone recommend anywhere to go to get the underneath done?

I have just done mine in my garage. First brushed all the underside of car to remove crap, especially back wheel arch areas collect it. I brought those cheap decorating sheets of polythene. to cover the floor of garage, which i masked off to the sides of the car. covered the brake assemblies. then brought the big tub of waxoyl the spray gun they seel. i then first heated the tin of waxoyl, pressurised the tin spray a thinish coat, as nearly comes out like treacle.

A 1 hour job to spray, but easy.

Best spray it in some old clothes you do not mind throwing away. As it GETS EVERYWHERE.

Regards Kev

dont over do it, most folk go nuts with the stuff in the doors and cake up the drain holes in the bottom, or in the bottom of the sills. this then causes more harm than good.

heating it is good, ive never been impressed with the pump sprayers but if you buy an underseal gun an spray it on with that. it normally comes with a cavity tube anyway.

remember if your thinning it down with white spirit or another thinners, itl both cause a highly flamable vapour, and leave a waxy film on your windscreen.

but at least the car will smell nice for a few weeks

:)
