just done my gearstick bushings, fookin ell what a bugger to do!!!

it must be hard for most people to do, but with hands like mine it was nuts!!

took gearstick out and found the following!! i have to say that there is no movement in the stick at all anymore, no wiggle no turning nothing!.

many thanks to baggins for diagnosing the problem!

the gears feel so different now, tight and precise, and you have to get it in the slot first time.. theres no forgiveness on this now.. much better feel.

many thanks to baggins for the heads up on this!

pics of what i found attatched!!

nice one though mate, not the easiest thing to do,especially removing the stick, and getting the 12mm bolt that sits stupidly underneath

wierd thing was putting it back together was easy!!

yep..

ok nice and easy to do i found.. i just had to take it back out to do the work on the new gearstick im making.

take the surrond off the top then the gearstick drops down. on the top you have got a nut you can see at the front of the stick and one at the rear that is underneath that you cant, get a 12mm spanner with a kink on the end a ring one is better, or get one and bend it slightly, stick that under and undo that one first, then undo the one on the top you can see.

then hold onto the treaded bar that sticks up and get a 12mm ring spanner onto the nut on the left of the stick, on the right get a micro ratchet and 12mm socket and turn away when it gets really loose put fingers in and hold nut while turning the ratchet, it will fall into your hands and then you can pull bolt out of drivers side.

lift gearstick and turn 90 degrees so bushings face you then tilt forward and remove.

i will do pics shortly.

heres mine.. ahem

That is weird putting stuff back together again usually takes longer, are you sure it's all back and in the right place :D

i ate them.. well i got peckish..

Peace of p155 replaced gear stick with short shifter in about 1 1/2 hrs the only bit I struggled with was fitting the bottom bit of the new short shifter with bushings into the bracket then linining up to get bolt through. Well chuffed with the change and not as hard as I thought it would be. Cheers Si.
