Watched interesting program on Men & Motors about Lotus Esprits. Covered all models from 1st to last. What was interesting was the 2.2 litre 4 cylinder one was faster 0-60 than the 3.5? litre V8 !!

 

Guess this is due to increased weight ? OR is this a common thing with engine size versus acceleration for turbocharged cars ?

Think it's the torque/traction equation. Too much grunt to lay it down nice and smoothly. I could be talking complete and utter boll*cks, but I think thats the mistery.

Nice cars tho' . Shape only changed subtly over a long period, and they all look good IMO.

I was looking at a 2001 with the round lights on the back and the BBS le Mans wheels. I was sourley tempted. Yep I've always like em and apparently the 97+ cars are well and truely sorted.

My best mate had an Esprit and a Lotus Elite... Both used the same Renault 25 Gear box and both buggered up on him!!! Then after he got rid of them he bought a Renault 25 TXE of Ebay last year for £50!!!! At least the Renault works!!! :D

they tried to get one to do 200mph on 5th gear and couldn't which suprised me

Always loved the Esprit - especially the V8 :bow:

 

Wouldn't have thought the 2.2 was quicker to 60 though - most certainly isn't 0-100 or over the 1/4.

 

Thing is, there were sooo many variants of the 2.2 I wouldn't know which was which. Although the most powerful 2.2 was around 300bhp and the V8 is 350-ish.

I had a 2.2 turbo spent more time taking the engine to bits than I did driving it. But it did look very kewl in black, even if you can totaly block your front window vision with the sun visor :)

I like the 300 sport esprit i dont know if it is 300bhp i think it is.

Let me guess it got something to do with MASS :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:
